WWE WrestleMania 40 Sunday – Night Two: Full Results & Recap

A photo of Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 40

The Biggest Show of the Year took over this weekend. Saturday’s WrestleMania 40 Night 1 was one for the books. We had a couple of title changes and some great highlights throughout the night.

With Night 1 already starting red hot, Night 2 was no exception. In this article, I will go over who won in each match through a full WrestleMania Sunday Recap.

Keeping with WrestleMania tradition we started with the National anthem. Doing the honor for Night Two was War and Treaty. On Saturday we had Triple H kick it off, tonight we had Stephanie McMahon. She introduced WrestleMania 40 as the first Mania under the Paul Levesque (Triple H) era.

She hyped up the crowd with the famous DX saying, Are You Ready? Now it was time for the first Championship match of the night.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match

Elimination Chamber winner, Drew McIntyre challenged Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Both McIntyre and Rollins tried to outdo each other with over-the-top WrestleMania 40 Entrances for Night Two.

The bell just rang and McIntyre wasted no time. As soon as it rang McIntyre hit a Claymore on Rollins. The champion barely kicked out at two. McIntyre meant business and suplexed Rollins on the mat.

McIntyre tried for a future shock DDT in front of CM Punk. Rollins would counter and pedigree McIntyre instead. When McIntyre got up and inside the ring, Rollins hit a Curb Stomp for a two-count.

After back-and-forth shots, McIntyre went for a claymore but Rollins countered with a powerbomb. Then he hit a pedigree and his curve stomp but McIntyre still kicked out at two. Rollins tried a Curb Stomp from the top rope but McIntyre reversed and went for a claymore.

Rollins reversed and then McIntyre reversed with a Future Shock DDT. With Punk ringside McIntyre tried to go for Punk’s finisher but Rollins countered. Then when both athletes were up McIntyre hit his claymore but Rollins still kicked out.

Drew McIntyre Becomes World Heavyweight Champion

McIntyre seemed obsessed with Punk. He tried to powerbomb Rollins through the announce desk where Punk was. Rollins reversed and Curb Stomped McIntyre on the same table. Rollins dragged McIntyre inside but hit another claymore on Rollins. The champ still kicked out.

He hit a second claymore and finally got his WrestleMania moment. McIntyre won the World Championship for the third time in his career. But it was the first time in front of a live crowd at WrestleMania 40.

Rollins showed so much emotion and with tears in his eyes just stared at the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. With his hand raised even McIntyre showed emotion and presented his championship to his wife and family.

After composing himself, the new champion stared at Punk and taunted Punk with the championship. He even did the suck it gesture to Punk, CM Punk had enough and slammed McIntyre on the table. Punk took off the cast and attacked McIntyre.

Money In the Bank Cash In

Damian Priest attacked McIntyre and told the ref he was cashing in. Priest hit a sit-out choke slam on McIntyre for the win. Damien Priest from The Judgement Day cashed in and did it successfully.

Damian Priest is our New World Heavyweight championship. For the second time in history, someone cashed their money in the bank contract successfully. Priest celebrates with the Judgement Day as McIntyre looks upset and ashamed. Meanwhile, Punk is happy and McIntyre looks at him with hatred. Night two started dramatically.

I would rate this match and outcome a solid A. The match was explosive and fast-paced. This match alone was one of the best matches from both nights. The story was about McIntyre warning Rollins not to get distracted from distractions. To stay focused on what matters the championship only.

Then he loses his championship because he was distracted and obsessed with Punk. We are getting a rivalry with McIntyre and Punk.

Also, McIntyre won his third title and Priest cashed in successfully and won his first World Championship. Solid A leaning towards an A+, one match, and three different title holders in Night two with Priest coming out on top.

Six-Man Philadelphia Street Fight

Before the next match started, we were honored by the presence of Snoop Dogg in the commentator booth. The surprise special guest referee for the street fight was Bubba Ray Dudley. The match consisted of Street Profits and Bobby Lashley against The Final Testament (AOP & Karrion Kross) for Night Two.

The Final Testament was dominating throughout most of it. The extreme rules stipulation seemed to benefit The Final Testament too. It was kendo stick after kendo stick for most of the match. Outside interference from B-Fab helped turn things around for Lashley’s team.

When Scarlett hit Lashley with a kendo stick B-Fab got involved. Both women landed on a table outside of the ring. When Lashley kicked out, Kross confronted and pushed Bubba Ray. A distracted Kross was speared by Lashley. Street Profits and Lashley hit a Dudley Boyz special on Kross.

Street Profits & Bobby Lashley win the Street Fight

Bubba Ray told Street Profits to get the table. While that was happening Montez Ford of the Street Profits hit Kross with various Kendo stick shots. Montez hit a sprig splash to Kross onto the table. Street Profits and Lashley win. I give the match a D., it was not extreme the way they tried to pass it on as.

It was mostly just a bunch of kendo stick shots and two tables. We did not even get to see much of AOP or Street Profits. Even B-Fab and Scarlett did more than both teams. Only Kross and Lashley shined in the match for Night two.

LA Knight vs. AJ Styles

This is the biggest match in the career of LA Knight. Not only is it against a former two-time WWE World Champion in AJ Styles. This is Knight’s WrestleMania match debut. The fans were behind LA Knight the whole time, yelling his “Yeah!” catchphrase.

AJ Styles meanwhile introduced a new song at WrestleMania 40. The new song suits his villain character better. This Night Two match seemed personal for both of them. Styles blamed Knight for stepping over his spot in the main event when he was injured.

Then Knight cost Styles a spot in the elimination chamber qualifying match. Styles flew to Australia just to cost Knight the Elimination Chamber match. Then Knight went to Styles’ home as payback and it’s been personal ever since.

Styles ran in and both men threw back-to-back punches. Throughout the match Styles seemed to target the leg and knee of the megastar. Knight looked right at home in his first WrestleMania match ever going toe to toe with the Phenomenal One.

The highlight of the match was Knight hitting an avalanche German Suplex from the top rope. Styles went flying over the head of Knight. Styles countered Knight with a calf crusher. Styles continued to target the knee and leg area of Knight.

LA Knight Wins His First WrestleMania Match

Knight had enough and pulled the mat out from ringside. While he went for a powerbomb on Styles, AJ flipped him over and Knight landed on the unmated floor. Styles did not care about pins and tried to win by count out. Knight slid into the ring at 9. Styles went for a 450 Splash but Knight had his knees up just in time.

After blow for blow, Knight went for a clothesline and Styles countered with a Pele Kick. Styles went for the phenomenal forearm and as he jumped, Knight hit the ropes.

Styles lost balance and landed on his head. LA Knight took advantage and hit the BFT for the win at Night Two. I would rate this match a solid B. It was a good wrestling match and Knight showcased why he belongs in the big leagues. Things seem to look good for the Megastar going forward, Yeah!

WWE Hall of Fame 2024 Inductees

Before the next match, Samantha Irvin announced all the WWE Hall of Fame Inductees at Night Two. This included the “Wise Man” Paul Heyman and The U.S. Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda). The latter honored the late great Windham Rotunda with a couple of Bray Wyatt Shirts.

United States Championship Triple Threat Match Entrances

The next match was a triple-threat match for the WWE United States Championship. It was the champion Logan Paul defending against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. The champ decided to use WrestleMania 40 to sponsor Prime his brand. He was launching a PRIME cannon in a PRIME Truck as he made his WrestleMania 40 entrance.

Kevin Owens was hyped as the new WWE Intercontinental Champion, but Sami Zayn returned the favor and motivated him to win. Not to be overshadowed by Paul, Owens came out in a golf cart.

The legendary Randy Orton came out with his classic Voices theme song. The funny moment was Owens reversing in the golf cart to pick up the Viper, Randy Orton in Night Two.

U.S. Championship Triple Threat Match at Night Two

As soon as the bell rang, Paul ran out like a coward. Owens and Orton chased him and took turns punching the champion. Orton and Owens both took turns to drop Paul on the Spanish announce table. Although it was a triple threat Orton and Owens had no problem tag-teaming against Paul.

It only seemed a problem when both went for the pin and Randy Orton tried to RKO Owens. The alliance ended as both Randy and Owens threw punches at one another which Paul took advantage of for a double clothesline.

As Paul taunted Orton, KO hit a super kick on Paul. Then Owens hit a double cannonball on his opponents. Owens went for the Swanton bomb but Paul had his knees up.

Paul hit the Swanton on KO then a slam on Orton. As Paul went for a clothesline on Orton, he countered with a power slam. Then vintage Orton as he hit a double rope ddt on Owens and Paul.

Highlights of the Match

Fans were cheering as Orton went for the RKO to Paul. Paul pushed Orton and KO super-kicked Orton instead. Owen hit a power slam and a moonsault on Paul but he kicked out at two. As Owens went for a pop-up powerbomb on Orton, Randy countered with an RKO but Owens kicked out.

Paul from behind tried to use brass knuckles on Orton and eventually did. Paul thought he won but Orton kicked out. Then he uses the brass knuckles on Kevin Owens.

As he taunted Orton and tried hitting another punch, Orton reversed with an RKO out of nowhere. The fans cheered as Orton seemed to bring back his legendary punt kick. But the masked prime mascot who turned out to be IShowSpeed pulled Paul out. Speed pushed and barked at

Orton. Randy kicked Speed and RKO’d Speed on the announce table.

And Still U.S. Champion

Owens hit a pop-up power bomb on Paul, then a stunner on Orton. Randy Orton somehow kicked out. Randy Orto hit a crazy RKO mid-air from a pop-up powerbomb.

However, Paul being the coward he is, pushed Orton out of the ring and pinned a knocked-out Owens. Paul retains his championship by taking advantage of a frog splash. Paul celebrates drinking a prime drink on the prime logo.

Overall I would give this match an A- at Night Two. It was an entertaining match that got almost ruined by Speed showing up and making a fool of himself with his bark. All three competitors were great to watch. Paul seemed to hold his own against two veteran wrestlers with so much talent.

Owens always has a good showing and it’s Randy Orton, who showcased he still has it at age 44 coming back from a back injury, and why he’s one of the greatest to ever do it.

WWE Women’s Championship Match

This match consisted of Royal Rumble Winner, Bayley challenging her former group member IYO SSKY for IYO’s WWE Women’s Championship at Night Two.

This had a compelling story where Bayley was the leader of Damage CTRL. Bayley brought in Iyo and Dakota Kai to the main roster. Then they both turned their backs on Bayley and added Asuka and Kairi Sane.

The two were pretty evenly matched for the first part of the bout. Each wrestler dominated for quite a bit, IYO showing her athletic abilities and Bayley her veteran instincts.

Highlight was IYO with her signature moonsault from the top rope into the outside landing on Bayley. Iyo would follow with a top rope missile drop kick. Then Bayley hits a sunset flip to IYO into the bottom turnbuckle.

And New WWE Women’s Champion

IYO went for another moonsault but this time Bayley was ready with her knees up. As Bayley missed with a top rope elbow IYO countered. Bayley struggled as Iyo kept coming back with submission moves. However, when IYO got up Bayley hit her with her Bayley to Belly suplex.

Bayley let her emotions get the best of her for a second and IYO capitalized with another moonsault but Bayley kicked out at two. After back-to-back counters, Bayley finally hit the Rose plant for the win. Bayley becomes the WWE Women’s champion one more time at Night two of WrestleMania 40.

I would overall give this championship match a C+. It was good they each had good moments and spots. Bayley winning was the right call, she has earned this moment. And now for the fourth time in her career, Bayley is yet again our Women’s champion.

72,755,000 in Attendants at Night Two

Celebrities were in the building again. Michael CheGeorge Kittle, T-Pain, and for the second night Vanessa Hudgens, and Lilly Singh. Snoop Dogg and the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders announced that 145,298 people were in attendance for both nights.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match Entrances

Finally the match the WWE Universe was waiting for. Will Cody Rhodes finally finish the story? Or will Roman Reigns’ historic reign continue? One way or another the story will end.

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defended his championship against Two time Royal Rumble Winner, Cody Rhodes under “Bloodline Rules.” Cody Rhodes came out first with a chilling and awesome entrance.

The American Nightmare came out with his wife Brandi Rhodes and an awesome mask coming up from the entrance ramp. Rhodes gave his mother and family hugs The fans seemed behind Rhodes as this was the biggest night of his life.

Not to be overshadowed by Rhodes’ entrance, Reigns had a cool and chilling WrestleMania 40 entrance of his own. The commentators acknowledged how long he has had the title for. 1,316 days as champion, fourth longest behind Bruno SammartinoBob Backlund, and Hulk Hogan.

While both contestants made their way into the ring, the fans waited in anticipation for the bell to ring for Rhodes vs Reigns II.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match Start

The match started with an epic stare-down. Roman Reigns had a smug smile while Cody Rhodes did not back down, he was all business tonight. The big first highlight was Roman being a little cocky and trying to spear Rhodes early. Rhodes dodged it and Reigns ran into the middle turnbuckle to the floor.

For the second time in the match, Rhodes used Reigns’ momentum against him. Reigns this time ran into the steel steps on the outside. While Rhodes went to get Reigns, The champion took advantage and started unleashing Kendo stick hits onto Rhodes.

Rhodes had Reigns down and paid tribute to Ric Flair with a Figure-Four Leg Lock of his own. Since it’s Bloodline rules, Reigns took the fight to Rhodes throughout the arena. Reigns tried to suplex Rhodes through a table but Rhodes countered with a suplex of his own to the outside table.

As Rhodes went for a disaster kick, Reigns countered with a powerbomb. Reigns showed his frustrations as Rhodes kicked out at one from a suplex. He yelled at Rhodes to go to Hollywood because it was his company. Reigns then called him a little bitch. Reigns would continue to run his mouth every chance he got.

Highlights of Rhodes vs. Reigns

Reigns was dominating Rhodes until “The American Nightmare” turned things around with a super kick. Both men then hit a simultaneous clothesline knocking both down. Rhodes then would hit a power slam of his own, shades of his mentor, Randy Orton.

Rhodes would follow up with a disaster kick. Reigns countered Rhodes’ finisher with a CrossRhodes. This was an insult to Cody Rhodes. Rhodes would counter the Superman Punch with the bionic elbow and a lot of headshots.

It seemed Rhodes had his sights on the announce desk but Reigns hit him with a low blow. Reigns then hit a powerbomb to Rhodes into the table and followed it with a Superman Punch. However, Rhodes showed his heart and still kicked out at two.

Reigns went for the spear and Rhodes countered with a Cody Cutter, this time Reigns kicked out. As Reigns went for the Rock Bottom, Rhodes countered with an arm drag. The arm drag turned into a spear, this time Rhodes hitting Reigns’ finisher.

The Interferences Start

As Rhodes went for a double Cross Rhodes Jimmy Uso super-kicked Rhodes. Reigns hit a Superman Punch on Rhodes and Jey Uso now got involved to defend Rhodes. Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso continued to attack each out.

Jey speared Jimmy on the stage. Reigns speared Rhodes but he still kicked out. Cody Rhodes still had some fight left with a spear through the outside barricade on Roman Reigns.

Rhodes hit two Cross Rhodes and went for a third. This time Solo Sikoa got involved. He hit Rhodes with a Samoan Spike to Rhodes. Solo dragged Roman on top of Rhodes but somehow the American Nightmare kicked out.

As Solo and Reigns ambushed Rhodes, Reigns, and Solo hit Rhodes with a combined Spear and Samoan spike. This time John Cena came out to defend Cody Rhodes.

John Cena Returns

He attacks Solo and hits the AA on Roman Reigns. Then he hit an AA on Solo through the table. Then The Rock comes out to defend his cousin, Roman Reigns. There was an epic stare-down between John Cena and The Rock. John Cena gets Rock Bottomed by The Rock.

As he takes his belt out, The Shield music hits. Rollins tried to distract them by ambushing The Rock. However, Reigns hits Rollins with a Superman punch. Rollins had the shield gear on.

Then everything goes dark and The Undertaker comes out. He is standing behind the Rock and the Chokeslammed him. Then he left the arena and took the Rock with him. Reigns hit Rollins with a chair and tried to spear Rhodes. Rhodes went for the triple Cross Rhodes and hit it.

With so much emotion, Samantha Irvin announced Cody Rhodes as the New WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. Cody Rhodes finally finished his story. Rhodes with tears in his eyes celebrated with his wife Brandi Rhodes. This is a no-brainer, an A+ all around for this match.

Cody Rhodes Finished The Story

Cody Rhodes becomes the first Rhodes to ever hold the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Everyone comes out to celebrate with Rhodes. The first to congratulate him were Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, John Cena, LA Knight, and The Undertaker.

His family and Brandi Rhodes joined in the celebration. Then a touching moment with mentor and mentee as Randy Orton comes out and hugs Cody Rhodes. Seth Rollins and CM Punk both also came out to congratulate the new champ.

Cody Rhodes brought out Bruce Prichard and Triple H to celebrate with them as well. Rhodes went out to celebrate with Michael Cole too and embraced him in a hug. When Cody Rhodes continued to hug everyone who came out one more time, Zayn and Randy Orton carried him on their shoulders.

As everyone was leaving, Rhodes acknowledged the help of Seth Rollins and shook his hand. Cody Rhodes would continue to celebrate with the WWE Universe as the PLE ended.

We finally have a champion everyone can be proud of and Cody Rhodes is about to enter a new chapter in his story but this time as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
