The Iron Claw Trailer Reaction

The first trailer for The Iron Claw movie has been released and revealed a lot about what to expect.

The trailer opens with an absolutely jacked Zak Efron in a wrestling ring. Efron’s physique has already caught the attention of non-wrestling fans. So what else do we know about the movie from The Iron Claw trailer?

The Iron Claw Trailer – What We Learned 

The Iron Claw trailer opening sentence perfectly sums up the movie.

“Ever since I was a child people said my family was cursed. Mom tried to protect us with God, Pop tried to protect us with wrestling.”

Wow. That’s intense. A curse? So it’s a horror movie? Not exactly.

Efron plays the role of Kevin Von Erich. In the trailer, we see his relationship with Pam Adkisson who is played by Lily James. We see the two fall in love, Von Erich introduces his family of wrestlers and then some traumatic moments play out.

Pitting Hollywood A-listers Efron and James against each other will also help get non-wrestling eyes on the film.

From the look of the trailer, they seem to have a great chemistry. The trailer also focuses on the brother’s deep connection, passion for wrestling, and relationship with their intimidating father Fritz.

We also see Fritz reveal his ranking order of his sons as Kerry being his favorite, followed by Kevin, then David and Mike.

Don’t Fear The Reaper 

The Iron Claw trailer is set to “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by American rock band Blue Öyster Cult. This helps get the era of the movie across and is also a big hint that death will play a large role in The Iron Claw.

The trailer only shows one tragedy occurring. Anyone who knows the Von Erich story will know this is an extremely subtle hint at what will play out. Anyone who attends The Iron Claw based on the trailer will be set for a lot of shocking twists and devastating turns. 

Apart from Kevin and Pam’s relationship, we see Kerry Von Erich being asked to join his brothers in the wrestling business by his father. He is also seen to be experiencing some troubling moments. Jeremy Allen White will play Kerry.

Wrestlers React 

Cody Rhodes promoted the movie by posting the trailer on X with the quote “Wrestling indeed does have more than one royal family”.

Also posting on X, Marshall Von Erich said he knew without his dad’s involvement the film wouldn’t be 100% factual. But he praised the wardrobe, the focus of God and hoped it would help people suffering from loss. Marshall is the son of Kevin Von Erich.

Ric Flair also features briefly in the trailer. It’ll be interesting to see if further trailers show more of the darker moments from the Von Erich story, or if these are purposefully being saved for people to experience on the big screen.
