Television Title on the Line This Week on ROH TV
Samoa Joe has been hailed the “King of Television” as has held the ROH World Television Championship and the AEW TNT Championship simultaneously. He lost the TNT Championship to Wardlow at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view last Sunday. He still has the ROH Television Championship and is even more motivated to keep it around his waist. Joe’s combinations of dangerous strikes and submissions always make him a threat between the ropes.
Enter Tony Deppen. This match was announced last week during a backstage interview between Deppen and Lexi Nair. During the interview he made it clear that he is confident that he can defeat Joe. Deppen went as far as to call out submissions such as the STF and the chicken wing as ways he can defeat Joe this week. All jokes aside, Deppen is not one to take lightly. His time in Ring of Honor as part of VLNCE UNLTD showed what he can do in the ring. Those unfamiliar with Deppen can also check out his matches in GCW to see examples of his in-ring style.
Deppen will have to bring it all to get that title off Joe, who will surely be in the mood to fight this week on ROH TV.
Pure Title Open Challenge
This match came together during an in-ring interview with Wheeler Yuta. Ian Riccaboni referenced Yuta as the “junior member” of the Blackpool Combat Club during the interview. Yuta did not like being called the junior member and laid out how he has gotten to where he is now. He laid out an open challenge to anyone in the back that was answered by none other than Timothy Thatcher.
Thatcher and Yuta stared each other down with Thatcher staying silent. Thatcher may be quiet but his abilities in the ring speak volumes. He is known for his time in Evolve, NXT, and now Pro Wrestling NOAH. His in-ring style aligns very well the rules of the Pure Division in ROH. Yuta may be the champion, but he has a very tough competitor in Thatcher on this week’s ROH TV card.
Willow Calls Her Shot
Last week Willlow Nightingale picked up a win over Lady Frost. Following the match, she was interviewed by Ian Riccaboni in the ring where she reminded everyone that in addition to her win over Lady Frost, she has also won her last two pay-per-view matches. With those wins, she feels that she has earned a shot at ROH Women’s Champion Athena.
Athena then made her way to the entrance ramp where she accepted the challenge for this week’s ROH TV card. This will be a clash of personalities as Willow always has an upbeat and positive attitude. Athena on the other hand has shown a much darker and more aggressive side to her personality and ring style over the past few months. That attitude helped her become the champion and she is not looking to let it go anytime soon. This will be a tough battle for Willow but also a big opportunity on this card this week on ROH TV.
