Preview: GCW Ransom (3/5/23) – Full Card, Start Time, How to Watch

GCW Ransom

This Sunday, Game Changer Wrestling wraps up its eventful weekend in Atlantic City with GCW Ransom. In addition to no fewer than two title matches, there will be a healthy combination of domestic and international talent being showcased. The latter is far from the exception when it comes to GCW events, but it should make this event all the more must-see for those in the Tri-State Area. However, in the event that you don’t live in New Jersey or its neighboring states, the action will air live via FITE+. Here’s what to expect once the opening bell sounds at The Showboat.

A Six-Woman Tag Team Contest at The Showboat

In what promises to be an exciting six-woman tag team contest, the joshi puroresu trifecta of VENY, Maki Itoh, and GCW Ultraviolent Champion Rina Yamashita clashes with trio of Sawyer Wreck, Billie Starkz, and Janai Kai. Though all three individuals come from Japan, as well as having plied their craft there, VENY, Itoh, and Yamashita are three unique personalities, which should make their teamwork at GCW Ransom incredibly interesting. For context, consider the sheer versatility of VENY, the magnetic personality of Itoh, and the element of danger that Yamashita each bring to the table. The same can be said for deathmatch enthusiast Wreck, charismatic up-and-comer Starkz, and martial arts specialist Kai. Simply put, the various elements at play should make this a match worth seeing. In fact, it wouldn’t be unfathomable to see this one steal the show, leaving attendees at The Showboat talking about it as they make their way out of the venue later in the evening.

Settling the Score in a Steel Cage

In what may be the final chapter of an ongoing saga, Allie Katch is set to face Charles Mason within the confines of a steel cage. In the months leading up to this event, Mason and his Mercenaries have been psychologically targeting Katch, leading to her allies in EFFY and Dark Sheik being caught in the proverbial crossfire as well. At GCW Middle of the Night last month, Katch and Mason squared off with their respective allies being banned from ringside. Though Mason bested Katch on this night, it wasn’t enough for the latter, as she challenged him to one more match; to be more specific, a Steel Cage Match. Given the violence of their previous encounters, it should go without saying that the addition of a cage only ups the ante. At GCW Ransom, will Katch finally receive retribution or face further defeat?

Brandon Kirk Challenges for the Extreme Title

In one of the two scheduled title matches set for this Sunday, Brandon Kirk challenges Joey Janela for the GCW Extreme Championship. This marks Kirk’s first GCW match of the year, but it’s far from the only time he’s shared the ring with GCW’s resident “Bad Boy.” Hailing from New Jersey, Kirk clashed with Janela across various promotions, Combat Zone Wrestling being perhaps the most prominent example. In fact, it was at CZW Nineteen back in 2018 when Kirk picked up the victory over Janela in the opening match. Heading into GCW Ransom, it wouldn’t be unfathomable to see Kirk capture the gold, especially given his current double champion status as both ICW American Deathmatch World and H2O Danny Havoc Hardcore Champion. However, the experience and devil-may-care position of Janela may lead him to yet another successful Extreme title defense. Who will leave The Showboat with the gold?

The Motor City Machine Guns Go for the Gold

At GCW Ransom, The Motor City Machine Guns make their Game Changer Wrestling debut as the legendary tag team. Comprised of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, The MCMG are regarded as one of the best tag teams in the past decade and a half. It was around 2007 that Sabin and Shelley started to pick up steam as a unit, becoming not only one of the top teams in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling/IMPACT Wrestling but capturing the promotion’s tag team titles a total of 3 times since then. They’ve also been tag team titleholders in Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and elsewhere. Can they add the GCW Tag Team Championship to their resume as well? Though possible, it will be a tremendous feat as Los Macizos stand as the current titleholders in their third reign. Furthermore, Ciclope and Miedo Extremo boast 10 successful defenses in said reign, which speaks volumes about their dominance in the GCW tag team scene. Regardless of which duo emerges victorious, this looks to be a tag match to remember.
