ROH Cornerstone Jay Briscoe Passes Away

Jay Briscoe Passes Away

News broke late Tuesday that the wrestling world suffered another tragic blow. Current owner and promoter of Ring of Honor and AEW, Tony Khan, tweeted the following devastating news about Jay Briscoe:

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin”

Jay Briscoe Passes Away

Jay was the older brother to Mark Briscoe and was eight days shy of his 39th birthday. The Briscoes had just competed for House of Glory a month ago, losing their tag team titles to the team of Jay Lyon and Midas Black, the Mane Event. Also, earlier in December, at ROH’s Final Battle 2022, they had competed in a critically acclaimed Double Dog Collar match with long-time rivals FTR. It had been teased that this would be the final chapter in their rivalry, but no one had any idea it would indeed bookend that story.

Jay’s death was sudden, and since the news was made public, the tributes have been pouring in across social media. Jay had posted a photo earlier in the day with his brother, showing off his new hat. The ’13x’ refers to the Briscoes being in their 13th reign as ROH tag team champions.

We here at LWOPW send our condolences to the families and friends of Jamin ‘Jay’ Pugh. We also thank Jay for entertaining the fans for over 20 years.
