ROH commentator Ian Riaccabani noted that this makes Yuta the first-ever two-time Pure Champion. Yuta previously defeated Josh Woods at Supercard of Honor earlier this year to win the title for the first time. He was defeated by Daniel Garcia at Death Before Dishonor in a feud that has been part of the larger Jericho Appreciation Society versus Blackpool Combat Club program.
The match started off hot as both men used their closed fists to the face in the opening moments of the match. From there Garcia made it difficult for Yuta as he forced Yuta to use all three of his rope breaks early in the match. Garcia also had all three of his rope breaks available to him when Yuta had used all three of his.
Yuta turned things around and won the match after a series of strikes to the head and neck forced the referee to stop the match in true Blackpool Combat Club fashion. The Blackpool Combat Club is hoping to continue the momentum as Claudio Castagnoli will challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship in the main event of the night.
