What is the Nick Gage Invitational?
Presented by Game Changer Wrestling, the Nick Gage Invitational is a tournament featuring several competitive deathmatch wrestlers in a single bracket. The NGI has been a GCW staple since 2015, becoming a yearly event for the independent wrestling promotion since then. The first tournament took place in September 2015 and was won by MASADA. Tournament victors that followed include Matt Tremont, Masashi Takeda, Nick Gage, Mance Warner, and Alex Colon.
This year’s NGI is notable in that it’s the first GCW event to be offered as part of the company’s new partnership with FITE+; for $4.99/month, subscribers will have access to upcoming GCW events as well as the company’s back catalog of content.
The Favorites to Win the Tournament
This year’s Nick Gage Invitational features many first-time competitors in the tournament including Toshiyuki Sakuda, Sawyer Wreck, and Hunter Freeman. The NGI7 presents a platform for these competitors to not only showcase their abilities but advance to the finals before winning it all. However, on paper, there are clear favorites to win. These are the competitors that have years of deathmatch wrestling experience, but more importantly, they boast success in not only GCW but other wrestling organizations as well. As former GCW titleholders, Los Macizos, Cole Radrick, and John Wayne Murdoch could be considered favorites to win the GCW Nick Gage Invitational 7.
However, the biggest argument for the favorite to win the NGI7 is Alex Colon. After all, he won last year’s NGI, defeating Masashi Takeda in the finals and securing the GCW Ultraviolent Championship in the process. Furthermore, Colon stands as the company’s only threepeat Tournament of Survival victor, which speaks to his seasoning as a tournament competitor. Whether he can win his second NGI this Saturday remains to be seen, but in a promising lineup, Alex Colon stands as a strong favorite to take home the victory.
The GCW Nick Gage Invitational 7 will take place in Chicago, Illinois on November 12, 2022.
