Preview: WWE Raw Card (9/26/22) – Lineup for Monday Night Raw

WWE Raw Card - AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn graphic

WWE Raw this week takes place from the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The first time the company runs the building and their first time in Edmonton since 2013 as WWE continues to dip their toes back into the Canadian market after being quite distant for many years, only coming twice a year to two separate markets of the country for TV. Now they’re having several full-week tours in just 2022.  Let’s take a look at the WWE Raw card for this week.

WWE Raw Card for September 26, 2022

Clash Of The Indie Darlings

Announced over the weekend, AJ Styles will clash against the now official member of The Bloodline, The Honorary Uce, Sami Zayn. The two have had several matches within the WWE including a couple of peculiar Premium Live Event matches such as Sami and Kevin Owens together challenging AJ for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble in 2018 and a ladder match that also included Jeff Hardy at Clash Of Champions 2020 for the Intercontinental Championship.

This match also includes a wrinkle because Sami Zayn is not scheduled to be alone. Solo Sikoa, the other new member of The Bloodline and now former NXT North American Champion will be by Sami’s side. We saw how lethal Solo Sikoa can be just in the mere act of defending Sami, when he brutally attacked Madcap Moss and Ricochet on Smackdown. AJ Styles may have to watch his back as we see the TNA, ROH and New Japan mainstay go against the ROH and PWG boy.

Keep Your Eyes In Place, Please

Seth Rollins vs Rey Mysterio. Oh boy. The memories. Following Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle’s rivalry injecting itself as Rey teamed with Riddle against The Judgment Day, we now have this sidetrack for the two men from their respective feuds, also reviving their own feud from the good old Thunderdome days.

Of course, the last time these two faced off, it was in the very awkward ‘The Horror Show At Extreme Rules‘ event. The match being billed as ‘Eye For An Eye’ with the objective of pulling the opponents eye out of its socket to win. And so, Rey lost after the camera caught a golf ball in his hand….. I mean an eyeball. Yeah. It was totally an eyeball. That match, despite the ridiculousness of the stipulation, was actually very good from a technical point of view. As such, we should get a very good match between these two, hopefully.

The Panda Express Reunites

No, we aren’t talking about the restaurant. Though a plate of that great orange chicken and rice doesn’t sound half bad. No, we’re referring here to the team of Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens. The story goes that during a tour in Germany on 2014, the duo opted to be a tag team and spent their nights watching videos of the thing they have in common: Pandas. This included promos of the two doing just that. Watching pandas.

While it’s doubtful they’ll be identified as such in WWE, though with Michael Cole’s comical stretch of making obscure indie references these days, who knows? The point is tonight on Raw, Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens come together to face off against The Alpha Academy. Otis and Chad Gable have been primarily trying to get revenge for Braun Strowman’s attack when he returned weeks ago. However, this week, they shift gears.

Champ vs Champ

Wasn’t this what caused issues with other Champs not that long ago? Either way, one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, IYO SKY, goes head to head against the Raw Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair.

Belair and SKY are no strangers to one another, they’ve clashed several times in NXT. Back then, Io Shirai as she was known then, was without a doubt the superior star. Successfully defeating Belair for the NXT Women’s title several times. Nowadays, Belair is the more highlighted performer of the two. So it might just be her chance to finally gain a victory over her one-time superior back in the Black & Gold.

Riddle’s Punishment

In a rather peculiar creative choice, probably because of the new creative regime, Matt Riddle may have the big Fightpit match at Extreme Rules with Seth Rollins, but he currently finds himself sidetracked against The Judgment Day. We started to see it happen last week when he decided to aid Rey Mysterio in a tag team match. Now we see him going one on one against the former ROH TV and NXT North American Champion, Damian Priest.

Nice to see that just because you’re a part of one program, you aren’t just condemned to strictly interact with your one current rival.

All that and more on this WWE Raw card as we’re just under 2 weeks away from WWE’s next Premium Live Event, Extreme Rules, on October 8th.
