Kenny Omega has not been seen on AEW programming since he lost the AEW World Championship to Hangman Adam Page, at Full Gear in November of 2021. Omega took time off to rehab multiple injuries he was working with. Omega made his return and reformed The Elite by teaming with The Young Bucks to take part in the AEW Trios Championship Tournament.
The Young Bucks have been looking for a partner for the tournament. They recently tried to recruit former tag team partner Hangman Adam Page who declined the invite to support his new friends in The Dark Order. With the Young Bucks in desperate need of a partner to enter the tournament, they found backup in the form of their long-time Elite partner.
The three members of the Elite are no strangers to AEW gold. Omega is a former AEW World Tag Team and AEW World Champion while the Young Bucks are two-time AEW World Tag Team Champions. Will they add another title to their resume? Time will tell as the tournament advances.
