Major news from the Joshi world as AEW star and former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida has captured the top championship in Pro Wrestling WAVE, the Regina Di WAVE Championship. Shida defeated Prominence’s Suzu Suzuki in Suzuki’s first defence of the championship. It is fitting that Shida holds the title as WAVE was once the place she called home, even boasting a Catch The WAVE tournament win to her name.

Suzu Suzuki won the championship recently when she defeated Miyuki Takase in the final of the Catch The WAVE tournament. The title isn’t usually on the line in the tournament but former champion Nagisa Nozaki was originally scheduled to wrestle Suzuki in the final and opted to put her title on the line as well. An injury to Nozaki has forced her out for the foreseeable future meaning Takase and Suzuki wrestled for the tournament win and the vacant title, with Suzuki emerging victorious.
The title match headlined WAVE’s anniversary celebration which saw them run multiple shows across two days, culminating in the Joshi dream match of Suzu Suzuki vs Hikaru Shida. It was Shida who emerged victorious, winning the Regina Di WAVE for the second time in her career and winning her first title in Japan since her run as OZ Academy Openweight Champion in 2018-2019. WAVE fans will no doubt be excited to see the champion represent their brand on All Elite Wrestling.
