Roderick Strong Requests Release From WWE

Roderick Strong NXT Cruiserweight Championship

Per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, a “notable WWE talent” requested their release from the company. Not long after, it was reported that former NXT Tag Team, North American, and Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong asked for his WWE release. Furthermore, it’s been reported that he asked for his release “multiple times” over the last several months. He was also pitched a name change, as has been the case with other NXT 2.0 Superstars, which was an idea he opposed. This story comes off the heels of numerous talent releases, Dakota Kai, Malcolm Bivens, and Dexter Lumis included among them.

What to Know Regarding Reported Story

Also included in the original Fightful story was that, despite requesting his WWE release multiple times, Roderick Strong remained professional in the handling of creative from week to week. Not unlike Mustafa Ali’s request for his own release earlier this year, WWE sources confirmed that they have no plans to release Strong. Rather, it would seem that he factors into their creative moving forward; what this specifically entails remains to be seen, given that multiple members of his onscreen faction, Diamond Mine, are now gone from the company.

If Strong is granted his WWE release, one would assume that All Elite Wrestling is a potential destination. This is especially true given that his former Undisputed Era teammates, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and Adam Cole, are not only part of said organization but together in their own faction. Marina Shafir, who is Strong’s real-life wife, is also involved in the company. Additionally, with Ring of Honor now under the ownership of AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, Strong would make for a suitable addition as a former ROH World Champion, World Tag Team Champion, and World Television Champion.
