#AndNEW: Roman Reigns Unifies WWE and Universal Championship Titles at WrestleMania 38

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar Two-Night WrestleMania Sunday

In the main event of WrestleMania 38 Night 2, WWE Champion Brock Lesnar faced Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Though this was far from their only WrestleMania encounter – this was their third – but this one was particularly important in that it was a unification match. In other words, the winner would leave AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas with both titles in their possession. This particular chapter in their long-standing feud dates back to Lesnar’s return at last year’s SummerSlam, which saw him confront Reigns following “The Tribal Chief’s” victory over John Cena. Lesnar would go on to win this year’s Royal Rumble in January, in addition to the WWE Championship the month after at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Though both men enjoyed momentum heading into this main event, Brock Lesnar fell to Roman Reigns, who unified the WWE and Universal Championship titles at WrestleMania 38.

This victory wasn’t without controversy, however. During the action, the official became inadvertently caught in the crossfire. This allowed Reigns to hit a low blow on Lesnar before striking him down with the Universal Championship. Despite this, Lesnar stayed in the match, even cinching in a Kimura Lock. Ultimately, Roman Reigns hit one final Spear on Brock Lesnar, unifying the WWE and Universal titles.

What to Know Following WrestleMania Main Event Encounter

With this victory, Roman Reigns has become the first man to hold the WWE and Universal Championship titles simultaneously. There have been a few wrestlers that held both titles at different periods in their careers; these names include Lesnar, Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Bray Wyatt. However, up until now, no one has been able to lay claim to the accomplishment of holding both titles at once, let alone unifying them.
