Josh Woods was the longest reigning champion in ROH coming into this match. That streak is now over as Yuta dethroned Woods for the title. Woods defeated Jonathan Gresham at Death Before Dishonor to win the championship. He joined the ranks of The Foundation shortly after the win. Woods defended the title against the likes of LSG, Brian Johnson, Dak Draper, and more during his time as champion. While ROH was on hiatus he wrestled Rhett Titus for the title in a match that went to a draw. He also defended the title against Victor Benjamin during the ROH hiatus.
This is the first title in ROH for Yuta. He currently wrestles in AEW where he has been part of Best Friends and CHAOS, although that partnership has been uneasy since he attempted to join William Regal on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago.
Yuta will now be the Pure Champion as ROH moves into the next era. The company was purchased by Tony Khan in March of this year and this is the first event under his ownership.
