On Saturday night, Victory Pro Wrestling is back for their second show of 2022 and it just so happens to also be celebrating 16 years of VPW! With five matches announced as of this writing, there can only be expected to be more and it already is shaping up to be just an amazing card worth going out of your way to see. Here’s what to expect heading into VPW Blood, Sweat & 16 Years.
VPW Blood, Sweat & 16 Years – Full Card
Bobby Orlando vs Brother Greatness vs Mike Anthony vs Phillip Cardigan (Winner To Be Crowned The 2022 King Of New York)
Starting back in December of 2021, there was a series of First Round Matches in the King Of New York Tournament. In December, at Devastation, Mike Anthony defeated Jack Tomlinson and Phillip Cardigan defeated Karlo Vice to advance to this match. In February, a month to the day, Bobby Orlando defeated Adam Cain while Brother Greatness defeated James Sullivan. All four of these wrestlers can make a great case for being the King Of New York and so it really does feel like a match any of them could win.
On one hand, Anthony recently won a four-way match in Blitzkrieg! Pro, so his experience there and unstable style of wrestling could give him the edge here. Greatness and Cardigan are similar in the way that they feel like they’re rookies when people are talking about them, but they’ve been doing this for much longer and deserve much more credit than they get. Finally, Orlando could win this simply because he is “your mom.”
The Hounds Of Hatred vs The Wolves Of Odin
The Wolves Of Odin are comprised of Kaide Lothbrok (Stockade) and Dante Drago, which makes this an interesting match; Stockade used to be a member of The Hounds Of Hatred, which will now be Bam Sullivan and Boo Sullivan. This match is not going to be for the faint of heart, and with all four wrestlers expected to be in the ring at the same time, it might not even be able to be contained by one referee. Not only will this match likely get out of hand fast, but it will also look more like a war than a sporting contest. This is going to be fun to watch at VPW Blood, Sweat & 16 Years.
New York State Championship: Eric James (c) vs Dezmond Cole
The way that this match came about is rather interesting as it is a true challenge based on respect. Back at Before The Storm in February, Eric James was to defend the title one on one against Karlo Vice. Jarrett Diaz, however, did not like this and inserted himself into the match. After James won and retained the New York State Championship, Vice and Diaz double-teamed the champion. This led to the save by Dezmond Cole, who was then awarded a title shot for his efforts.
Cole has more than proven that he can hang in there with James, and even if this match doesn’t see him come out as champion, it should definitely put more eyes on him. James has had some impressive wins in VPW as the New York State Champion, defending the title successfully against nearly the entire roster. This might not only become a Match Of The Night at VPW Blood, Sweat & 16 Years, but it should certainly be on the radar for Match Of The Year.
VPW Women’s Championship: Valentina Vasquez (c) vs Little Mean Kathleen
Karen Bam Bam held the VPW Women’s Championship for a record 707 days, something that feels like no one else will be able to possibly top. However, if there is someone out there who can top this record number of days, it is Valentina Vasquez, who won the title back in December 2021 at Devastation. Since then, Vasquez has successfully defended the title against Clara Carrerras one month ago, but now, Vasquez faces the biggest challenge of her title reign, and possibly career, as she goes up against Little Mean Kathleen.
LMK is certainly no stranger to championships, as she is currently the Northeast Championship Wrestling Women’s Champion. However, Valentina Vasquez is special. She has everything it takes inside of that ring to hold onto that title forever and now just might be the time for her to prove just that. Many wrestlers can and will have their breakout years in 2022, but for Vasquez, it has already started. If you haven’t taken notice yet, you will.
VPW Championship No DQ Match: Johnny Collins (c) vs Mister Tibbs
Back at Before The Storm, Johnny Collins was barely able to escape the match against Mister Tibbs with the VPW Championship. Had it not been for the outside interference of Even Stevens, Tibbs might be the VPW Champion right now. Instead of giving Tibbs a DQ victory last month and settling with that, it was decided that this match would take place again and this time it would be a No DQ Match!
While this might just seem like an opportunity for the Even Stevens to come out again and turn this into a 3-on-1 match, which would be playing by the rules and could see Johnny Collins pin Mister Tibbs with help, it has to be assumed that Tibbs has not only thought of this situation as well but is expecting it. This would certainly put Collins at a disadvantage and could very possibly result in a new VPW Champion being crowned because Collins won’t be able to implore the same tricks as last month to keep Tibbs down.
All of this and more goes down on Saturday, March 19, 2022 in St. James, New York! For tickets and more information please visit: http://www.victoryprowrestling.com/
