Last night on SmackDown Big E suffered a broken neck during a tag match with fellow New Day member Kofi Kingston, where they took on Sheamus and Ridge Holland. It occurred from a gone awry belly-to-belly suplex on the floor from Holland. He announced the injury via Twitter after being stretchered out. He clarified that he still had the use of all his digits but his neck was definitely broken. Today on Twitter, he posted another video, updating the severity of his injury:
Big E Issues Update on Injury Sustained at SmackDown
— Ettore “Big E” Ewen (@WWEBigE) March 12, 2022
“So I got some really good news, all things considered. The C-1 and C-1 (vertebrae) are indeed fractured, no displacement though which is a very good thing. And I don’t have any damage to my spinal cord, no ligament damage, and no surgery which I’m very thankful for.” He goes on from here to thank his fans further for the well wishes and kind words they had/have sent him, as well as thanking the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital (UAB for short) for taking care of him.
This is definitely a positive update. WrestleMania is only weeks away. To have to miss the show entirely would be tragic for any worker. For someone as hard-working and universally beloved as Big E? It would be a massive blow not only to him and his fans but to the show as a whole. Whatever Mania holds for him, at least Big E will likely be there in some capacity.
