On February 28’s broadcast of Monday Night Raw, 2x NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa secured his first singles victory on the main roster.
Ciampa has made main roster appearances on World Wrestling Entertainment’s flagship brand throughout February 2022. Ciampa, who is a core roster member of NXT 2.0, is seen as the standard bearer of the developmental brand’s gritty “Black and Gold” incarnation, appeared on Raw on February 14 to confront Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. On February 21, Ciampa teamed up with Finn Balor to face off against Roode and Ziggler. Ziggler’s quest to add NXT champion to his resume led him to another appearance on NXT 2.0 on February 22. Their hard fought bout almost resulted in a win for Ciampa, but interference from Roode secured the victory for Ziggler.

Tommaso Ciampa – First Monday Night Raw Victory: A Deeper Look
Ciampa’s reprisal came in the form of a singles match against Roode. Ciampa began the bout in dynamic fashion, with a rapid fire knee strike upon Roode. He continued the offensive with strikes and kicks to Roode, even targeting Roode’s head. The relentless intensity that made Ciampa an NXT favorite, heralded for the authenticity honed in various independent promotions, was on display. Roode retaliated by roughly handling Ciampa, tossing him about, momentarily in control. Ciampa landed and pulled Roode outside the apron to join him, where their struggle continued. Ziggler verbally confronted Ciampa, who warned him off.
Once back in the ring, Roode worked Ciampa against the ropes but Ciampa warded him off with another knee strike from the corner. Roode and Ciampa scrambled for dominance, and in the fray Ziggler was dealt a knee strike from outside the ropes.
Ciampa eventually secured a pinfall victory with a roll through and cover on Roode. Following his win Ziggler joined Roode in the ring and assaulted Ciampa with a superkick, took the mic and teased his and Roode’s tag match facing off against Ciampa and NXT 2.0 champion Bron Breakker.
Ciampa’s Raw appearance and victory signals a continuance of the reason cross brand feud between himself and Ziggler, as well as the synergy between Raw and NXT 2.0.
