GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Vacated Following Injury

Muto Marufuji GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Titles

Pro Wrestling NOAH held an emergency press conference on Tuesday. It had been announced a day prior and speculation began to fly as to the nature of said conference. Keiji Muto and Naomichi Marufuji of the M’s Alliance were announced as participating members. That’s when they announced that, due to a hip injury to Keiji Muto, they would be vacating the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. This came as a shock to many considering they were in the middle of a strong reign.

Muto and Marufuji successfully defended the belts not too long ago against Manabu Soya and Kenoh. The now former tag team champions also expressed their desires to take their tag team globally this year. Thus, it’s a bittersweet ending to this reign. However, Keiji Muto vowed to return when healthy and continue to chase his dream within NOAH. Muto also stressed that he, and not his doctors, will choose what’s next for him.

What’s Next for the Championships?

As of now, there is no word on what will happen with the vacant belts. However, during this three-day stretch at Korakuen Hall, we should learn about what Pro Wrestling NOAH plans to do with the GHC Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. A smart route would be a tournament. It would give everyone on the roster a fair shot, but for now, we must wait and see.
