The main event of NWA Hard Times 2 saw Trevor Murdoch successfully defend the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship against Mike Knox. However, what should have been a positive moment to close out the show quickly turned sour. To the shock of viewers, Matt Cardona made his NWA debut on this show, making his way to the ring as a weary Murdoch celebrated. With Murdoch’s back turned to his previous opponent, Knox hit the world champion with a low blow. This would bring out Mick Foley, who didn’t hesitate to tell Cardona that he “sucked,” as well as Pope, who went on the attack against Knox. The show came to a close with Cardona standing over Murdoch, who had been laid out by Knox, holding the NWA world title over his head. With this moment, a new potential contender for the title became apparent.
Wait!! WHAT??? @TheMattCardona is here at @nwa #HardTimes2….but why? @SoSaysShernoff asks the question that's on everyone's mind!
Thanks to Josh and to the NWA for a beautiful night! pic.twitter.com/VJ0yJSrwtt

Matt Cardona Makes His NWA Debut
It would appear that the National Wrestling Alliance is the latest stop for Matt Cardona following his release from WWE in early 2020. Since that time, he became a notable name in several organizations, some of which where he showcased a more nefarious side. Nowhere has this been more evident than Game Changer Wrestling, where he dubbed himself “The Deathmatch King” to the ire of the GCW faithful. He would also go on to capture the GCW World Championship from the promotion’s stalwart star, Nick Gage. Cardona’s quest for world title gold didn’t end there, however. This past October, at Absolute Intense Wrestling’s One Step Ahead event, Cardona captured both the AIW Absolute & AIW Intense Championships.
Now that Matt Cardona made his first NWA appearance, one must wonder when he will officially challenge Trevor Murdoch for “The Ten Pounds of Gold.” Will this potential title match take place on NWA soil, where Murdoch would have the home-field advantage, or will Cardona challenge the blue-collar titleholder at another organization’s event?
