Crowbar Comes to AEW: What to Know Prior to Dark: Elevation

Crowbar AEW Dark Elevation

This week, on AEW Dark: Elevation, there is plenty of action scheduled. In addition to the current crop of All Elite Wrestling stars and independent talent around the world, there will be involvement from established veterans. Facing off against “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela will be none other than Crowbar, who longtime wrestling fans may know best from his time in World Championship Wrestling. This will mark the “Timeless” wrestler’s first appearance on AEW programming. Here are a few things to know as Crowbar prepares for his AEW debut.

What to Know About the Former WCW Star

Having learned under Canadian wrestler “Iron” Mike Sharpe, the man who would become known as Crowbar started his professional career in 1992. He began his career under the name of Devon Storm, working primarily in the independent wrestling scene. Storm made multiple appearances for ECW, working with such names as Mikey Whipwreck, 2 Cold Scorpio, and Taz. He also saw a brief stint in the World Wrestling Federation, even competing in a tournament to crown the first-ever Light Heavyweight Champion, which was ultimately won by Taka Michinoku. However, it was in WCW that Storm saw the lion’s share of his mainstream success.

Storm started with WCW in 1999, ultimately aligning himself with Daffney and David Flair. It was here where he adopted the character of Crowbar; together, the trio became known for their maniacal antics. In particular, Crowbar wrestled a more extreme style, which led him to success on multiple levels. He became WCW Hardcore Champion, won the WCW World Tag Team Championship with Flair, and co-held the WCW Cruiserweight Championship with Daffney for a period. In March of 2001, Crowbar was released from WCW, prior to the company’s eventual closure and sale to the WWF.

In addition to being a licensed physical therapist in real life, Crowbar continued to wrestle across the independent circuit, as well as make sporadic appearances for ROH and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Recently, he has seen something of a career resurgence, appearing for more prominent organizations. Case and point, at Jersey Championship Wrestling‘s After Hours event, he faced Rickey Shane Page in a deathmatch. This was notable, as Crowbar became JCW Heavyweight Champion back in 2002.
