On the first episode of “NXT 2.0,” designed as a rebrand of the once black-and-gold brand, the main event was nothing short of game-changing. In the wake of Samoa Joe‘s news regarding his injuries, as well as his relinquishing of the NXT Championship, 4 men competed to become the new titleholder. The men in question were Tommaso Ciampa, LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and newcomer Von Wagner. Kyle O’Reilly was supposed to take part in this four-way contest. However, a backstage attack at the hands of Dunne and Ridge Holland rendered him unable to compete. Thus, NXT General Manager William Regal put Wagner in O’Reilly’s place. Originally, this match was designed to decide a new number one contender for the title. Rising above 3 of his fellow competitors was Tommaso Ciampa, who ended the night holding his first NXT Championship.

This fatal four-way match for the NXT Championship approached its conclusion as Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne fought one-on-one. This came off the heels of Ciampa and Dunne taking the young Von Wagner out of the running with tandem offense. LA Knight would soon become involved, executing a superplex on Dunne. Even Wagner seemed on the cusp of winning, had it not been for Ciampa’s interference. Finally, Ciampa planted Knight with the Fairytale Ending, securing the pinfall. With this victory, Tommaso Ciampa became a 2x NXT Champion.
The first episode of NXT 2.0 was a showcase for many future stars on the brand. These included, but weren’t limited to, Bron Breaker, the son of legendary tag team wrestler Rick Steiner and nephew of Scott Steiner. Given the show’s renewed focus on youth, as well as the future, Ciampa has seemingly taken Samoa Joe’s spot. Not only is this true as a veteran leader, but now, the new NXT Champion. Who will be the next competitor to step up to Tommaso Ciampa and the NXT Champion? Whether it’s an established star or a bright up-and-comer, the landscape of the former black-and-gold brand has changed.
