Per the official National Wrestling Alliance Twitter account, Ric Flair is making his return to the promotion that helped launch him into superstardom. On August 29, at Chase’s Khorassan Ballroom in St. Louis, Missouri, Ric Flair will return at NWA 73, the promotion’s 73rd anniversary event. This news comes hot off the heels of not only Flair’s departure from World Wrestling Entertainment but “The Nature Boy’s” surprising appearance at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s Triplemania XXIX event, in which Flair accompanied Andrade El Idolo to the ring for the latter’s AAA Mega Championship match against Kenny Omega.

If there is any one wrestler that is synonymous with the NWA, it would be Ric Flair. “The Nature Boy” achieved considerable success under the banner, winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship on a recognized 8 occasions; he also held the title on 2 other occasions that aren’t recognized by WWE. In any event, these 8 recognized title victories ties him with Harley Race. From Ronnie Garvin to Bruiser Brody to Dusty Rhodes and beyond, Flair has waged wars against countless legends for “The Ten Pounds of Gold.” In 2008, Flair would enter the NWA Hall of Fame. That same year, he was inducted along with Tommy Rich, Nikita Koloff, and The Iron Sheik.
Now that it’s been confirmed that Ric Flair will be returning at NWA 73, fans will be curious to know what role he’ll play. As evidenced by his involvement in the Triplemania XXIX main event, which saw him and El Idolo exchange chops on Omega, it’s apparent that the elder “Nature Boy” isn’t shy about getting physical. Securing Flair’s services is a huge get for the NWA and may lead to greater things between the two parties moving forward.
