Tiffany Haddish to Host SummerSlam Afterparty

Plans for World Wrestling Entertainment’s August 21 pay-per-view SummerSlam continue to take shape. Rumors have swirled for months about big names that might return to WWE for marquee matches at the event, to be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. While John Cena has recently returned to the WWE fold, there is nothing new to be said about the status of Brock Lesnar, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent remarks seem to indicate he will not be a presence in WWE any time soon. However, SummerSlam will not be without star power: it has been announced that actress and comedienne Tiffany Haddish will be hosting the official afterparty for SummerSlam 2021 in Las Vegas, sponsored by Pure Life Purified Water.

Proceeds from the invite-only event, in which WWE Superstars will mingle with Haddish and other celebrities, will flow from WWE towards Haddish’s She Ready Foundation, which works to improve the lives of children in the foster care system. Haddish shot to fame following the 2017 comedy “Girls Trip.” She followed it up with stand-up comedy, a lead role opposite Tracy Morgan in the TBS comedy-drama “The Last O.G.”, and as part of the ensemble cast of the 2019 crime drama “The Kitchen”, co-starring fellow comedienne Melissa McCarthy. Haddish is perhaps WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan’s biggest get so far in his strategy to create synergy for the WWE with celebrity guest appearances.

Haddish admitted in the press release for the announcement that she has “never hung out with WWE Superstars before, but I’ve definitely helped a lot of foster kids.” Both Haddish and pro wrestlers are known for outrageous ad-libs, so breaking the ice should be no problem. Chief brand officer for WWE Stephanie McMahon stated in the same press release that, “WWE’s mission is to put smiles on people’s faces  and one person who does just that is the official host of the SummerSlam afterparty, Tiffany Haddish.”

Haddish’s presence adds a touch of celebrity to an event that WWE seems intent on making bigger than any SummerSlam before.
