On this week’s edition of SmackDown, Sonya Deville stood in the ring to make a surprising announcement. As the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event approaches, participants have been named and earned opportunities toward the men’s and women’s matches of the same name. Deville took to the mic to announce the second SmackDown entrant to enter the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match. This would prove to be none other than Zelina Vega, shocking the professional wrestling world in the process.
None too happy with this decision, Liv Morgan stormed to the ring. She expressed her disdain with the idea that Zelina Vega was able to enter the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match without earning the opportunity. Keep in mind that Morgan had previously failed to qualify for the match in question. This led to a SmackDown TV match between Morgan and Vega, the stipulation being that if Morgan won, she would be entered into the match as well. Following a competitive victory, it was Morgan that scored the surprise pinfall victory over the returning Vega.

Zelina Vega was previously released from World Wrestling Entertainment in November of last year. During this period, she expressed support for the idea of unionization in professional wrestling. Many outlets reported that Vega’s release from the company was due to her opposition of talent surrendering rights to their third-party accounts. Following her release, rumors circulated regarding a potential debut for All Elite Wrestling, specifically alongside her former partner, current AEW star Andrade El Idolo.
