The conclusion of Friday Night SmackDown saw Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman make a statement. In gloating fashion, Heyman ran down the list of names that “The Tribal Chief” defeated since his return at SummerSlam this past August. From “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to Braun Strowman to Daniel Bryan and beyond, Reigns successfully defended his Universal Championship against all contenders. Heyman claimed that there was no one left for the Universal Champion to face. Reigns took the mic, but before he could get a word out, he was interrupted by the opening phrase – “You Think You Know Me.” Following WrestleMania 37, Edge made his World Wrestling Entertainment return.
Edge stormed the ring and attacked Reigns, which led to a brawl on the outside. Over and over, “The Rated R Superstar” sent the Universal Champion’s head against the announce desk. Though Reigns would attempt to mount a comeback, Edge was one step ahead, hitting “The Head of the Table” with a Spear. Jimmy Uso, who picked up a victory over Dolph Ziggler earlier in the night, attempted to make the save for his cousin. Despite his best efforts, Uso received a spear through the barricade for his troubles. As Reigns and Heyman made their way back up the ramp, Edge stood in the ring as defiant as ever.

As stated earlier, Edge has been absent from WWE since WrestleMania 37. On Night Two of the two-night event, Edge and Daniel Bryan challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. The finish of this main event match saw Reigns pin Edge and Bryan simultaneously and in dominant fashion to boot. While Edge remained absent, Bryan returned, maintaining his focus on Reigns and his family. The leader of the “Yes Movement” wrestled his, as of this writing, last WWE bout this April on SmackDown, when he lost to Reigns in a Title vs. Career Match. Edge has not formally challenged Reigns for the title, though based on the events tonight, it’s fair to expect “The Ultimate Opportunist” to be in the championship picture en route to Money in the Bank.
