AEW Dark has become one of the main places to see top indie stars get opportunities ever since AEW stopped touring. This edition of Dark is shaping up to be one of the most eventful in some time with former NWA Television Champion Zicky Dice, indie star Matthew Justice, and indie veteran Dan Barry all making their AEW debuts on this show. Let’s take a look at who these debutants are for anyone new to them.
Dan Barry
Dan Barry is a veteran of the independent wrestling scene who debuted all the way back in 2003. He is mostly known for his Team Tremendous tag team alongside recent Ring Of Honor debutant Bill Carr and Ken Scampi. Team Tremendous has some tremendous success as Barry has won tag team gold in various independent companies in the U.S. What many may not know about Dan Barry is that he has a cult-like following in Ireland that developed during an appearance for Over The Top Wrestling. Barry originally planned to retire from pro wrestling in 2019 but has hung on and now has a major opportunity with AEW.
Matthew Justice
Matthew Justice is another veteran of the independent wrestling scene having debuted in 2006. In recent times Justice has emerged as a to star in promotions like Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW) where he was a double champion for most of 2020. Justice is a member of the unofficial “stable” known as Second Gear Crew which boasted Eddie Kingston as a member of the group dedicated to being tough guys. Justice has all of the physical attributes to stand out in the world of wrestling and has the talent to go far.
Zicky Dice
Black & Brave trainee Zicky Dice has had a relatively quick rise in wrestling as the 2015 debutant won the NWA Television title last year and was set to have a good run with the company before parting ways with the company. While he never got the run he deserved in the NWA Zicky Dice is the kind of talent who could excel if given a chance by AEW, it is up to him to earn it when he takes on Lance Archer in his debut.
Cyrus
Cyrus The Destroyer is a veteran of the Georgia independent scene having wrestled for Anarchy Wrestling, Georgia Premier Wrestling, and a number of other promotions in the region. Cyrus had a run with Japan’s WRESTLE-1 promotion in 2020.
Missa Kate
Unlike a number of the other people debuting on this show Missa Kate isn’t a veteran, she debuted in just 2018, and has been active in the Chicago area since her debut. Her most notable accolade to date was winning the Chicago Style Wrestling women’s title. Kate has recently been moving beyond Chicago to work for Generation Championship Wrestling in Florida, a company that is fast becoming a leader in developing women’s talent, and Zelo Pro Wrestling in Milwaukee.
