MLW Drafts Former ROH and IMPACT Wrestling Star Davey Richards

Earlier tonight, Major League Wrestling held Round 1 of its 2021 Open Draft. With MLW FUSION‘s return fast approaching, this will mark a game-changing event for the promotion at large. Fans of the promotion wondered who would be brought onto the roster, bringing their unique skills and abilities to the table. Returning names Gino Medina, King Muertes, and Marshall and Ross Von Erich were confirmed. The company’s first new signee, however, took the wrestling world by surprise. MLW announced that it had drafted former Ring of Honor and IMPACT Wrestling star Davey Richards.

Richards spoke to Alicia Atout regarding his signing with MLW. “They have the best competition. They have a very steep hill to climb. I want to help this brand grow,” said Richards. He also expressed his goal of becoming the MLW World Heavyweight Champion down the line. He would also close out the conversation with a simple phrase: “I’m back.”

As stated earlier, Davey Richards is perhaps best known for his time in Ring of Honor and IMPACT Wrestling. While he’s a former five-time TNA World Tag Team Champion, he achieved considerable success in ROH, winning their World Championship once and their World Tag Team Championship three times. This doesn’t even begin to cover his work across various independent organizations, including Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he is a one-time World Champion. Simply put, wherever Richards has been, he has been able to generate success for himself.

In 2017, Richards stepped away from professional wrestling to not only focus on his studies but heal from knee injuries. This past March, it was announced that he would be returning to the squared circle. It would seem that MLW is his first major landmark, and given the experience and skill he brings to the table, expect him to become a major player in the promotion.
