On tonight’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Natalya and Tamina faced Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. This was the second time that the challengers faced the champions for the title; their first title encounter took place at WrestleMania 37 last month. Despite a spirited effort, Natalya and Tamina were unable to secure the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.” However, with this second chance, the multi-generational women’s superstars were able to maximize their opportunity. By the time the closing bell sounded, Natalya and Tamina were crowned the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Following WrestleMania 37, Natalya and Tamina would continue to lock horns with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and their ally, not to mention love interest of Nia Jax, Reginald. In fact, last week on SmackDown, Tamina faced Reginald, defeating him by disqualification in only a few minutes. This came one week after Natalya and Tamina successfully defeated Jax and Baszler in a non-title match on SmackDown. Tonight, Natalya and Tamina had the champions’ collective number. The match ended when Jax hit a Samoan drop on Natalya, only to be met with a Superfly Splash courtesy of Tamina. Finally, the title chase that began at WrestleMania 37 came to an end.

This is the first time that either Natalya or Tamina won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Since beginning her WWE career, Natalya has held the Divas Championship and SmackDown Women’s Championship, establishing herself as a veteran within the women’s division. Tamina’s luck in regard to singles accolades has been less fortunate. In fact, prior to tonight, she only held the 24/7 Championship, which she won backstage at Hell in a Cell 2019 before losing it to R-Truth later in the evening.
With their loss, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler have held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles for a total of 215 days across their two championship reigns. In fact, along with Sasha Banks and Bayley, as well as Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, Jax and Baszler are one of the few tandems to have held the titles on multiple occasions. Expect the former champions to maintain their sights on Natalya and Tamina to win the titles, kicking off a record-setting third reign.
