Beyond Dynamite: Catching Up on the AEW YouTube Shows (12/10/20)

AEW YouTube Shows

While AEW Dynamite is the crown jewel through which AEW is built, the company also relies on several other weekly YouTube shows to help advance stories, create additional character development and overall aid to the AEW fan experience. As AEW began without TV, the company even relied on their YouTube presence to build to their first PPV and it was a massive success. Today, AEW’s family of shows includes Being the Elite, which is managed and created by the Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler, Sammy’s Vlog, which is created by Sammy Guevara, and AEW DARK, which currently serves as AEW’s second in-ring wrestling show. Through this weekly series, we’ll be recapping all three, making sure that everyone is in the know of any developing stories taking place outside of Dynamite.

Being the Elite

Oh Captain, My Captain!

John Silver’s hilarious run as BTE Champion continued this week as he oversaw a game of Uno to determine a new #1 contender for the title. Shawn Dean AKA the Captain of AEW DARK fame, defeated Chuckie T, Trent, Evil Uno and Aaron Solow in a game that no one seemed to know how to play. That means next week, Dean will take on Silver in a game called Skit, where all we know so far is it involves throwing Skittles at the wall.

New Member (s) for Dark Order?

Ever since Alex Abrahantes gave the Dark Order all the answers in the Family Feud game, the former Speaking Splangish host has been gravitating towards the Dark Order. This week, he was caught drinking the Kool-Aid, literally, by Santana, Dasha and Diamante. Abrahantes fretted about being late for his recruiting meeting before running off. While Abrahantes is a strong addition, the big fish Dark Order is hoping to reel in is Hangman Page. In an effort to recruit Page, John Silver and Alex Reynolds left whiskey glasses outside before the whole of Dark Order proceeded to get super wasted. Page arrived later in the night to swipe the bottle and allowed Dark Order to fawn all over him as the recruitment efforts continued. And while it seemed Page was receptive to the idea, the sound of Justin Roberts’ voice calling Kenny Omega’s win led to Page leaving disappointed. The will he/won’t he continues.

The Minute Man

In a thread that continued over onto Sammy Guevara’s vlog, Isiah Kassidy mocked himself (and was mocked in turn by Matt Hardy, Sammy Guevara and his own partner Marq Quen) for being eliminated in the battle royale in one minute. And by Hardy nonetheless. Much like the angle with Michael Nakazawa now oiling up turnbuckles, this was a good use of BTE time to make a story out of an unplanned outcome from TV.

“Kenny Turned Heel”

The Elite were all ready to celebrate Omega’s win as planned but the new champ was nowhere to be found having absconded with Don Callis after the huge announcement connected to IMPACT Wrestling. BTE, which comes out Mondays, did not spoil what was to come on IMPACT as the episode merely ended with the Young Bucks, who recently trafficked in their shades of gray, announced that Omega did what everyone wanted, he turned heel.

Sammy’s Vlog

Marko Finds His Way Home

As regular vlog viewers will recall, last week’s episode saw a culmination to Stunt’s dastardly plan to have his best friend Sam all to himself. Stunt’s descent into lunacy arc concluded in a movie style fight scene that ended when Fuego Del Sol accidentally opened the stairwell door and it knocked Stunt out cold. It was then Guevara’s idea to toss Stunt into the river in Jacksonville because it leads to that “idiot’s lake.” Of course the lake in question was that of reincarnation belonging to Matt Hardy. This week’s episode spent some time focusing on Stunt making his way back home. No word yet if the reincarnation worked.

Living It Up, Rent Free

Another of rhe vlog’s ongoing angles has been the growing animosities between QT Marshall and Fuego Del Sol as Del Sol continues to angle for a match against the Nightmare Factory trainer. This week, Del Sol threw his relationship with Cody Rhodes in Marshall’s face before telling him he was living rent free inside his head. Marshall seemingly contemplated giving Del Sol the match before telling Guevara it was a joke and he has no plans to do so. However later in the night, Marshall had a dream where the match was on. He woke up just as the commentators were about to call Del Sol giving him the tornado DDT. If this angle doesn’t end in Del Sol getting his first win, it will be a real missed opportunity as Marshall has put him over big in the past few weeks as has Rhodes. It’s clear the plans for this guy go beyond DARK enhancement and Sammy’s vlogs.
