With the former Champion in Thunder Rosa having to vacate the title in the wake of the COVID Restrictions an eight-woman tournament was announced to determine who will be the new International Princess champion. The opening matches are taking place on the October 10th Kitazawa Town Hall, and October 17th Shin-Kiba 1st Ring shows. The semifinal and Finals will be decided at Wrestle Princess on November 7th at the Tokyo Dome City Hall. The opening matches are as follows:
Raku vs Shoko Nakajima
Mahiro Kiryu vs Mirai Maiumi
Pom Harajuku vs Hikari Noa
Suzume vs Yuki Kamifuku
Some things of note before going into this tournament. Like the King of DDT before it, the semi-finals will be shuffled, and with only an eight-person field that really just means that the brackets are deceptive upon first glance.
However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t an odds on favorite. If there was anyone who would be someone to focus on it would be Shoko Nakajima. She has held nearly every championship in the promotion save for the relatively new International Princess title, and was set to fight Thunder Rosa for it at the Tokyo Joshi Pro Coming to America show that was cancelled due to the lockdowns. She also made it to the finals of the Tokyo Princess Cup only to fall to Mizuki.
Though other people could make it into an upset. Hikari Noa and Suzume are young upstarts who have started getting wins under their belt. Only falling to top contenders for titles. But also picking up wins over people like the Up up girls, and the aforementioned Shoko Nakajima. And Mirai Maiumi has been going on a small winning streak that was only broken due to her and Suzume losing a Princess Tag Team title challenge to Daydream. So while there are favorites going into this. The International Princess Tournament at first glance is unpredictable.
