#AndNEW: Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax Win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax proved, at WWE Payback, that the enemy of one’s enemy is their friend. Leading up to the event in question, Baszler and Jax have been at one another’s throats. Week in and week out, if they weren’t slugging it out, they were trading verbal barbs. Even RAW Underground wasn’t safe, as Baszler challenged Jax to a fight, only for the latter to leave without a word. In layman’s terms, these two didn’t like each other. This only made the alliance they recently formed all the more surprising heading into this Women’s Tag Team Championship match.

Meanwhile, Bayley and Sasha Banks have hit a number of hurdles as of late. Case and point, at WWE SummerSlam, Sasha Banks lost the RAW Women’s Championship to Asuka. Meanwhile, Bayley was successful in her SmackDown Women’s Championship defense against “The Empress of Tomorrow” earlier in the show. Despite this, The Golden Role Models held the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Enter Payback, where they defended the titles against Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, both of whom recently found a common enemy in the loudmouth duo.

The Golden Role Models were crafty in this Women’s Tag Team Championship encounter. They targeted Jax’s knee, which had proven to be a weak spot of the powerful WWE Superstar. Keep in mind Jax was out for a lengthy period due to knee injuries. Meanwhile, Baszler had to rely on speed and cunning, in addition to her trademark MMA-inspired style, to keep the momentum in her team’s favor. The match reached a creative conclusion when Baszler applied submissions on Banks and Bayley at the same time. Using Bank’s own arm, Baszler choked out Bayley, picking up the submission victory. By the end of the match, WWE had new Women’s Tag Team Champions in the unlikely duo of Baszler and Jax.
