In the main event of WWE SummerSlam, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt challenged Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship. Moments prior, Michael Cole referred to this showdown as a clash between two “horror movie monsters,” which couldn’t be closer to the truth. Possessing imposing presences and incredible power, their feud has also been psychological. Nowhere has this been truer than the involvement of Alexa Bliss. She had close encounters with “The Fiend” and her longtime friend in Strowman. Coincidentally, she did not factor into the result of this Univeral Championship match.
To say that the main event of WWE SummerSlam was brutal would be an understatement. From Strowman tackling Wyatt through the barricade to the Universal Champion cutting up the ring canvas to expose the wood below, he stopped at nothing to defeat Wyatt. However, Strowman’s efforts would prove ineffective against the seemingly otherworldly resilience of Wyatt. “The Fiend” continued to fight through his opponent’s powerful offense. Their match even went to the backstage area before returning to the ring. Ultimately, “The Fiend” drove Strowman into the exposed canvas with Sister Abigail. Wyatt picked up the win and his second Universal Championship in the process.

The night wasn’t over, however. Before Wyatt had a chance to celebrate, he was blindsided with a spear courtesy of the returning Roman Reigns. Having been absent from WWE programming since April, Reigns made a huge statement on his first night back. In addition to laying out Strowman on the outside, taunting “The Monster Among Men” in the process, he floored Wyatt before raising the Universal Championship over his head. To the surprise of many, SummerSlam ended with the returning “Big Dog” standing tall.
Since becoming “The Fiend,” Bray Wyatt has seen considerable success. In addition to huge victories over the likes of Finn Balor and Daniel Bryan, Wyatt has been able to secure the Universal Championship on two occasions. “The Fiend” has been nothing short of dominant. That said, with the return of Roman Reigns, are the days for the diabolical monster numbered?
