#AndNEW: Chris Brookes Becomes First DDT Universal Champion

Chris Brookes

At Dramatic Dream Team’s (DDT) Into The Fight 2020 event, a match between Konosuke Takeshita and Chris Brookes took place. The winner of this match would become the first-ever Universal Champion for the promotion. That match would eventually be won by Chris Brookes.

The belt was announced late last year with the intention of it being for DDT to have more of a presence in other places, similar to the TJPW International Princess Championship. The touring belt gained attention due to it not only looking radically different from the other belts at the time, but it seems like a genuine attempt for DDT to have a presence in other markets. The two contenders chosen for it as mentioned earlier were Konosuke Takeshita and Chris Brookes. Both would’ve been solid first choices as champions with Takeshita being high on the totem pole of DDT. While Chris Brookes is a known name having wrestled in major indies across the world.

This match was an opposite reaction to that of their prior encounters in which Takeshita had gotten the better of Brookes. And it will be of intrigue to see where the Universal title goes from here with the popular Chris Brookes as champion.
