On the most recent edition of “Being The Elite” hints were dropped that West Coast Indie Star Peter Avalon could be on his way to AEW. “Professional” Peter Avalon has been a fixture on the Southern California Indie scene for over a decade. Billed from Carson City, Nevada he made his professional wrestling debut with Empire Wrestling Federation (EWF) on November 15th 2008 against Chris Kadillak. He finished the year with EWF and early 2009 debuted with Alternative Wrestling Show (AWS.)
Avalon’s Championship history began in April 2009 when he became AWS Light Heavyweight Champion (originally Lightweight). It was his first singles title and a belt he would hold for more than a year. During this time he attempted to wrestle the EWF Cruiserweight Championship away from Kadillak in singles and scrambles but was unsuccessful. He dropped the AWS title to Sindarin on June 19, 2010, at Bart’s Birthday Bash, and earlier in the evening Avalon competed in and was eliminated in the World War III 159 Man Battle Royal.
The summer of 2010 Avalon would lose to Colt Cabana in his Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (CWFH) debut, but it wouldn’t be long before Avalon established himself in Hollywood as one of their best. He joined forces with Adam Pearce, Joey Kaos, and Austin Aries to form “The Standard” towards the latter half of 2010 and would feud against the likes of Cabana, Scorpio Sky, and Joey Ryan. The Standard ended in 2011 and the break-up led to his partnership with Ray Rosas and one that’s become one of the best tag teams in SoCal history PPRay.
Avalon made his Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) also in 2010 in six-man and would drop matches to Candice LeRae in October and Willie Mack in December. PPRay would debut with PWG in 2011 and began competing throughout Southern California with EWF, SoCal Pro Wrestling, and AWS. In 2013 PPRay won the AWS Tag Titles in a Four Way Elimination and would carry the straps until November before dropping them to Los Bandidos (Rico Dynamite & Tito Escondido). PPRay would win the AWS Gold again and add another one as HATE.

They would trade the Hollywood Heritage Tag Team Titles back and forth in 2013 and 14 with the RockNES Monsters (Kevin Martenson and YUMA) but haven’t seen the gold since.

He also made his debut with Total Non-Stop Action (TNA) as Norv Fernum at Bound for Glory that year losing to Ethan Carter III. Unfortunately for Avalon, his time wasn’t particularly memorable as he worked primarily as a jobber, but he did get a shot at the TNA World Championship against Ethan Carter III at the end of his time there in 2015.
Billed at 5-10 169 Avalon is not your traditional cruiserweight. His aerial attack is limited but that’s fine because Avalon prefers to stay on the mat and punish his opponents. A very intuitive wrestler who has a keen understanding of psychology, and knows what buttons to push with his opponents and fans. He’ll grab hold of arms, legs, back whatever is available in order to set up his opponent for “Marti-Knees” or the move used more recently to finish fights, the “Half-Crab.” He does a beautiful job baiting his opponents into the crab and has shown the ability to lock the move from multiple countering positions.
Avalon won the 2015 CWFH Red Carpet Rumble, and he would collect that first singles Title in Hollywood winning the United Wrestling Network (UWN) Television Title over Kevin Martenson. He held the Championship for just 28 days because he would soon vacate it and summarily step into the history books. Earlier this month the WWE inducted The Honky Tonk Man into their Hall of Fame primarily because of the longest Intercontinental Title reign in history with 454 days as Champion.
Impressive right? Peter Avalon laughs in your face. After he beat YUMA to become Heritage Champion, he held the crown an unprecedented 672 days until Bad Dude Tito ended the run June 25, 2017. Avalon was Champ for 700 days combined and the Heritage victory also made him a CWFH Triple Crown Champion. Last year he had a good feud with former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Tim Storm and faced the former Champ at NWA 70 in Tennessee. His 2018 ended with a broken face that put him out of action for two months, but it looked to reinvigorate him.
He returned to CWFH for his 2019 debut and has looked more intense than before. A beautifully executed Half-Crab against Brandon Cutler recently and he will face David Arquette at Coastline Clash May 13th in Irvine. Avalon is a quality wrestler, very strong on the microphone, and would certainly be an elite asset for AEW.
