Wrestle Summit is a co-promoted card featuring some of the top companies in professional wrestling. Sponsored by California’s PCW ULTRA in co-promotion with IMPACT Wrestling, Seattle’s DEFY Wrestling, Australia’s Melbourne Championship Wrestling (MCW), Iowa’s Wrestling Revolver, plus including US indie talent and Japanese freelancers, it goes down this Friday March 29 at the ILWU Memorial Hall (ULTRAtorium) 231 W. C Street in Wilmington, California. The event begins with a Meet & Greet at 5:30 featuring an opportunity for an in-ring photo with Kevin Sullivan for only $25. The Main Event is PCW ULTRA Open Weight Champion Shane “Swerve” Strickland against Mil Muertes.
Trey Miguel (IMPACT) vs Adam Brooks (MCW)
Trained by WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy, Adam Brooks arrives at the Summit to face one of the top cruiserweight prospects in the World. Trey Miguel joined the Rascalz in 2018 and yet another great young talent from Ohio. An emerging star with IMPACT Wrestling, Miguel was out west St. Patrick’s weekend and was in the ring with top west coast stars Chris Bey, Damian Drake, Douglas James, and Matt Vandagriff now faces one of Australia’s best. Adam Brooks of MCW is regarded by some as one of the best grapplers from the Continent. He’s 4X MCW Intercommonwealth Champion, is the current Adelaide Championship Wrestling (ACW) Titleholder, and Brooks has competed outside Australia with PROGRESS, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW).
Johnny Impact & Taya Valkyrie (IMPACT) vs Daga & Tessa Blanchard (ULTRA)
Taya and Tessa had one of the great feuds in IMPACT Wrestling history and get together again in an ULTRA ring in tag action. Tessa is the PCW ULTRA Womens Champ and thwarted Taya’s attempt at dethroning her in January. She teams with Daga to take on the IMPACTWorld Champions. LUCHA UNDERGROUND star is a gifted wrestler, and one of the great teachers in the sport. They’ve been successful as a team recently with wins over Doomfly (Eli EVerfly & Delilah Doom) in January and Jessika Havok & Sami Callihan March 9th. This is a heated rivalry that will resemble a fight far more than a wrestling match. Johnny & Taya beat Moose & Tessa on IMPACT in January and recently faced Brian Cage & Jordynne Grace at the TV Tapings.
REVOLVER Scramble Championship Match: Caleb Konley (c) (WR) vs Douglas James (ULTRA) vs Randy Myers (DEFY) vs Kikutaro (JAP) vs Happy Man (JAP)
Anytime Ravenous Randy Myers is in a match anything could happen, literally. My friend has been growing out his beard in the hopes that Myers will touch it Friday. That’s the “Randy Myers effect.” Douglas James has seen a great deal of success in a PCW ULTRA ring as a former Light Heavyweight Champ last year, so he brings a home court advantage. Caleb Konley has held the PWR Scramble title in October of last year and defended it March 9 at It’s Always Sunny in Iowa March 9th.
Sami Callihan (WR) vs Brian Cage (IMPACT)
Callihan and Cage get together looking for wins at the Ultratorium as Callihan lost to WARBEAST in Tag Team action last time out, and Cage recently lost in his bid to dethrone Shane Strickland. These two stars will leave nothing backstage, and bring the fight. Cage and Callihan will do anything, so I suspect tables, chairs, and the like will somehow get involved in this one. The nastier the match gets the better for Sami as he is the smaller man although you always are against Cage and he’s one of the biggest humans I’ve ever seen in person. Despite his size the athleticism is there. He moves well in the ring and can fly around. With these top-level guys it should be a good one.
DEFY World Championship: Artemis Spencer (c) (DEFY) vs Zachary Wentz (IMPACT)
DEFY Champion Artemis Spencer beat Shane Strickland to win the Title in 2018, and has successfully against Wentz’ BFF Dezmond Xavier in January, MJF in February and former DEFY Tag Champ Ethan HD in March. Spencer doesn’t have moves that excite you, but the 32 year-old certainly gets the job done. Wentz is one of the most exciting talents in wrestling today. When he’s part of the Rascalz or in singles he’s high energy and can make any contest “must see” He’s one of the best tag team wrestlers today and a major Indie singles belt could go a long way in proving he’s not a “one trick pony.”
PCW ULTRA ULTRALight Championship: “Superstar” Jake Atlas (c) (ULTRA) vs Dezmond Xavier (IMPACT)
This match is going to steal the show. This is a big test for the Champion early in his Title reign. Jake Atlas may have had his “dream come true” trying out for WWE last year, but the PCW ULTRA Championship Committee wasn’t looking to grant any wishes. Xavier is one of the top stars in IMPACT’s X-Division and one of the best Tag Wrestlers on Earth. The speed advantage is Xavier’s and he always looks a step ahead of his opponents to a spot. Atlas though is very good at using his size and will want to utilize the high-level strikes in his arsenal to keep the Rascal grounded.
PCW ULTRA & DEFY Tag Team Titles Match, Title for Title: WARBEAST (Almighty Sheikh & Jacob Fatu) (c) (ULTRA) vs Sent 2 Slaughter (Dan Maff & Shawn Donavan) vs One Percent (Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson) (c) (DEFY)
Isaacs and Nelson are coming off a weekend that saw them get victories over SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) in Fresno, and a pinfall over the Rascalz and Reno Scum at MECCA IV in Las Vegas. This is another huge test for the duo as WARBEAST hasn’t lost in over 800 days at fight time. Once again “All violence is legal” and the advantage certainly sits with the current Major League Wrestling (MLW) stars (where they’re known as CONTRA). As always with a match like this, Sent 2 Slaughter is the team nobody’s watching and could sneak out with four belts.
PCW ULTRA Championship: Shane “Swerve” Strickland (c) (ULTRA) vs Mil Muertes
Shane Strickland has held PCW ULTRA’s Light Heavyweight Title (Now called ULTRA light), and beat Heavyweight Champ Pentagon Jr. to win both belts. Now as Swerve prepares his departure from the Indie scene he’ll want to close out his ULTRA run on top. Strickland played Killshot with Lucha Underground (LU), and now that he’s gotten that situation sorted it’s time to move on. For the first time ever he’s facing Mil Muertes who is arguably the emblem of Lucha Underground. Played by none other than 4x AAA Mega Champion and CMLL star El Mesias, Muertes is one of Mexico’s top wrestlers and one of Puerto Rico’s best. While a large presence in the ring, Muertes can be agile and mix it up with everybody. From wrestling top names like AJ Styles to delivering classics with Ricochet, Muertes has all the potential on having a solid match.
