Ground Zero Pro Wrestling presents The Blueprint with a great card Saturday, March 9th, 2019 in Imperial Beach, CA at the Imperial Beach Sports Park, 425 Imperial Beach Blvd. BELL TIME 8PM. One reason I like what Ground Zero has done is they don’t try to overload every card. They’ve been patient and given young stars an opportunity to shine.
Pre-Show Match – Santino Bros Wrestling Academy Showcase (Competitors TBD)
I love these matches because that’s the best chance to find new talent. Give me a couple of folks making their debut and I’m in. It’s not easy to learn your craft in public, and I’m always down to support them. Seriously though who doesn’t want to see a Santino Bros Showcase when you see the talent, they’re producing right now. Alumni include Rico Dynamite, Hoss Hogg, Matt Vandagriff, Douglas James, Dom Kubrick, Jake Atlas, Ray Rosas, Heather Monroe, Brody King, Bad Dude Tito, and Viva Van.
Mike Camden vs. “Highlander” Calder McColl
Mike Camden initial forays with Ground Zero in 2018 turned up empty, but he got his hand raised in tag action (w/ Levi Shapiro) at ReLoaded in January. That should improve the confidence moving into singles action against another SoCal veteran in Scotland’s Calder McColl.
DoomFly (Delilah Doom & Eli Everfly) vs The Bag Boyz (Chris Bey & Suede Thompson)
This is a great tag match on so many levels. DoomFly’s list of wins is littered with names like True Grit (Jesse James& Hoss Hogg), Wakanda Vice (Watts & Scorpio Sky), Radioactive (Danny Limelight & Matt Vandagriff), and Darby Allin/Priscilla Kelly. Not bad for a relatively new team, and now they face The Bag Boyz in what will be a wild and crazy affair. The Boyz are the newly minted United Wrestling Network (UWN) Tag Team Champions (as Double Platinum) and arrive on the Beach looking to get involved in a rapidly improving Ground Zero Tag Team picture. This match could steal the show.
Sandra Moone vs. Ruby Raze
So there’s stepping up in competition and then there’s stepping up in competition and facing the “Equal Opportunity Ass-kicker” Ruby Raze.
Wrestler: I wanna step up in competition.
Booker: Great! How ‘bout Ruby Raze?
Wrestler: jk
Raze is mean, tough, nasty, and really enjoys beating people up. Did I mention she was mean? Ruby hits hard and throws every shot with bad intentions. However, don’t let the peace signs and moons on her ring gear fool ya because Sandra likes to scrap too. Moone puts the game face on when the bell rings and will need it against someone who never takes it off.
AK Rambe (KC Douglas & Michael Hopkins) & Juan Mattioli vs. Hunter Freeman, Jordan Cruz & Ryan Kidd
AK Rambe got a gigantic win in the cage in January against True Grit, and now bring Juan “J2” Mattioli into the fray for a six-man bout against three talented youngsters in Hunter Freeman, Jordan Cruz, and Ryan Kidd. A little surprised AK Rambe isn’t in a tag match, but as I said earlier GZ is patient with talent. They’re the top Tag Team in GZ for now, so hopefully, we’ll see them at the end of April against one of Saturday nights winners.
“The New Age Daredevil” Damian Drake vs. “The Flip Artist” Matt Vandagriff
Vandagriff has chased Drake all over Las Vegas and now these two budding rivals find themselves in Matt’s backyard. Vanda is over big time at Ground Zero and will have the home court advantage that Drake’s held in the Vegas Valley. Surprisingly their bouts have been less high flying and more strike oriented. They’ve been entertaining, but with Drake making his debut and Vandagriff coming home expect a lot more risk-taking with both men letting it all go.
The Bomb Squad (Dylan Kyle Cox & Cameron Gates) vs. The Get Down (B-Boy & Adrian Quest)
Cox and Gates have been getting a lot of attention around the west coast, and take on two guys who don’t care. The twenty-year warrior B-Boy teams with Adrian Quest who shows up with a similar mindset. They both come to fight and the young bombers will realize quickly that The Get Down is a different level of competition.
No. 1 Contender Match: Tyler Bateman vs. “Dirty” Dom Kubrick vs. Jake Atlas
This match is the one I’m most intrigued by for obvious reasons. Will Kubrick use his Ring psychology against Bateman and Atlas? “Dirty” Dom tried against Atlas in the GZ Championship tournament and it didn’t work out then. Bateman always comes to fight, so the multi-talented 2017 & 2018 SoCal Rookies of the Year need to maintain their distance, stick and move to stay out of the GODDAMN MAN’s grasp at all costs. It’s easy to envision a scheme to take out Bateman, and teaming up against him wouldn’t be the worst idea. Tyler Bateman doesn’t try to disguise his offense and wants to press his opponent into the corner to smash them with heavy strikes to set up “Death from Above.” “The Superstar” Jake Atlas would love another shot at Andy Brown after losing to “Uptown” in the GZ Tournament semis while “Dirty” Dom surprised some grappling pundits with his win over Raze in January so he’s certainly capable of a spotlight victory.
Ground Zero Heavyweight Championship: “Uptown” Andy Brown (c) vs. “Relentless” Douglas James
How can you not get excited about two guys who NEVER have a bad match? Brown’s been on a roll since a rough patch last summer when he lost the FIST Combat Title (Douglas James), three straight GZ matches, and kept coming up short in Hollywood losing to Peter Avalon & Royce Isaacs. Then Brown beat Avalon to win the Red Carpet Rumble and followed that up winning the GZ Title, and then dethroned Royce Isaacs winning the Hollywood Heritage Gold. James was 5-1 in Ground Zero and won five straight matches in Imperial Beach prior to the hip injury that ended his 2018 campaign. He made a triumphant return stopping Tyler Bateman from continuing to attack the last man who beat him in a Ground Zero ring…Andy Brown. Douglas shocked Hammerstone in Las Vegas at the end of February and hopes to do the same to a red-hot Brown. This isn’t a match you can simply X and O because they know each other so well. It’s a toss-up. Can’t wait.
