Preview: DEFY Never Dies (1/19/19)

On Saturday, January 19th, DEFY Wrestling presents DEFY Never Dies. They are ushering in the new year with a new champion and a new direction. In doing so, the company is showing that they will continue to build around blending in homegrown talent with noted, established talent from around the independent circuit. The names listed on their roster are among the most popular in wrestling today. This also marks the first event where Artemis Spencer will be defending his newly won DEFY Wrestling championship. Who will be the winners and losers on this night, and who will leave a mark moving into next month’s Dragon Spirit? Will Spencer retain his championship? Here is our preview for DEFY Wrestling’s Never Dies.

D2S 10X Elimination: DEFY 2 Survive

Very little has been released about this matchup as this Facebook only announcement is a special ten-person elimination match up. What are the rules of the match up? One could speculate that if the previous year’s rules would be applied then fans could anticipate division of two separate groups of five that would eliminate each other. Those involved could include previous competitors such as; King Khash, Guillermo Rosas or Sonico. Could it be rising stars Chase James or Nick Radford? Whoever will be involved in the match, fans can be assured that the winner could be in store for a memorable 2019. Last year’s winner current DEFY champion Artemis Spencer ended 2018 as the new champion, what could be in store for this year’s winner?

Team DEFY (SCHAFF, Randy Myers & Shane Strickland) vs SCU (Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian & Christopher Daniels)

When a collection of talent committed to representing DEFY goes head-to-head against three longstanding friends and teammates, the result is a win for all watching. Those familiar with SoCal Uncensored have seen them achieve success as a six-man team, and have also seen Kazarian and Scorpio Sky working as a championship team. Daniels and Kazarian are former tag team champions too, so the success of these three men certainly suggests their opposition has their work cut out for them. Each member of the trio of Schaff, “Ravenous” Randy Myers and Shane Strickland may all call DEFY home, but can they work effectively together as a unit? That is where the biggest issues tend to lie. Each one has to be gunning for Artemis Spencer, so will that be what causes dissension in this match, or will being on home turf be of greater value on this evening?

Classic Cody Chunn vs. Robbie Eagles

A match that fans need to keep an eye on is this one between rising local favorite ‘Classic’ Cody Chunn and Bullet Club member Robbie Eagles of Australia. On the surface, it has all the telltale signs of being an outstanding and highly competitive match. Chunn has the opportunity to defend the honor of DEFY, as Eagles is coming into the promotion looking to make a name for himself in the Pacific Northwest. Will Chunn allow himself to be pushed around? That isn’t likely as Chunn is sure to make a statement right away, rather than run the risk of Eagles securing a victory. Will Chunn ensure that DEFY stands tall at DEFY’s Second Anniversary?

DEFY Tag Team titles: American Gunz (Ethan HD & Mike Santiago) (c) vs. 1 Percent (Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson)

The DEFY Tag team championships are on the line with the current champions the American Gunz primed to face the latest contenders for their titles. The duo of Royce Isaacs and Jorel Nelson are sure to make a difference, as they come in hungry. One of the biggest questions going into the match will be whether or not American Gunz continue to have the kind of success in 2019 that they did at the end of 2018. Each month the Gunz are sure to face someone that is eager to take the titles away from them, and 1 Percent is no different. An emerging tag team from the Las Vegas area, Nelson and Isaacs have already had success, winning the Future Stars of Wrestling Tag Team championships, and are seeking to build on that by challenging for the current DEFY champions. Their belief that they are truly the top 1% of professional wrestling suggests that they carry confidence and they have a work ethic. How will the current champions fare against their newest challengers?

DEFY Championship: Artemis Spencer (c) vs. Dezmond Xavier

In what will be his first DEFY Wrestling championship title defense, newly crowned champion Artemis Spencer puts his title on the line against one-half of the Rascalz tag team, Dezmond Xavier. Xavier will immediately put the new champion to the test. It is without question a matchup that will allow the current champion to show that his win over ‘The King of SWERVE’ Shane Strickland was no fluke. In Xavier, he faces someone whose in-ring style is not unlike that of Strickland. Spencer’s technical skill will be what he has to lean on in order to retain his championship. Who will walk out of Never Dies as the DEFY Wrestling champion?
