Timmy Jernigan Signs With Houston Texans

Jernigan spent the last three seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Appearing in 28 of 48 games, he accumulated 4.5 sacks with Philadelphia. However, in 2017, he started 15 games on their Super Bowl squad. Picking up 2.5 sacks from the interior, Jernigan was a part of a deep defensive line that was the heart of the defense. The defense finished the season ranked fourth in yards allowed and first in rushing yards allowed.

Following the season, however, Jernigan underwent back surgery and began the 2018 season on the non-injury/reserve list. He appeared in three regular season games and both playoff games, notching one sack during the playoff run. Injuries hampered Jernigan once again in 2019 as he missed six games due to a broken foot. He still finished the season with two sacks as the Eagles once again made a late-season playoff push.

Before arriving in Philadelphia, Jernigan was picked with the 48th overall selection out of Florida State by the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. As a rookie, he only started in three games while playing in 12 but made an immediate impact by notching four sacks. His efforts were good enough to earn him honors on the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team. The defense finished eighth in the league in total yards allowed and fourth against the run. In 2015, Jernigan again recorded four sacks while starting in eight games for a defense that again finished eighth in the league.. He became a full-time starter in 2016 when he recorded a career-high five sacks, one interception, and one fumble recovery. His five sacks were second on the team.

In total, Jernigan has 17.5 regular season sacks along with the one interception and fumble recovery. He also has an additional two sacks in seven career playoff games.
