Jacksonville Jaguars Fans Should Have These Two Resolutions

Jacksonville Jaguars fans should have these two resolutions going into the 2020 season. Here's how Jags fans can lessen the pain in the near future.

The year 2020 is around the corner and it is time for New Year’s Resolutions. For fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars it is a time to reflect on the past year. The hardships. Remembering the pain and disappointment. Questioning the lack of offense and defense. Reminiscing about all the drama from Jalen Ramsey, Telvin Smith, and Tom Coughlin.

So how can Jaguars fans ease the pain?

It is simple really. All fans need to do is lower expectations. That’s it. That’s the resolution for 2020. Realize that this team has glaring holes that will not be fixed overnight, or even an entire off-season.

Jacksonville Jaguars Fans Should Have These Two Resolutions

Step One – Turn off the radio

The radio waves in Jacksonville are routinely filled with positive vibes. Typically, the shows go with a “glass half full” approach to try and keep the fans happy. Or at least keep them interested. There’s lots of fluff and good feelings.

Fans need to turn off the radio. Listening to the radio will only make fans anxious and somehow excited about the 2020 season. The radio hosts seem to be in cahoots with the ticket sellers, trying to promote promise and a new hope for the new season. But Jaguars fans should just be prepared for another subpar season.

But fans need proof on the field, on a consistent basis. Fans need to remain realistic and not let the radio hosts influence their expectations.

Step Two – Draft Expectations

The fact that the Jaguars received extra first-round selections in 2020 and 2021 from the Jalen Ramsey trade is cause for optimism. But fans shouldn’t overdo it. This organization has a history of poor draft selections.

It’s OK to look ahead at positions of need. But the sheer volume of talent needed to field a competitive team in Jacksonville is staggering. The Jaguars need properly rebuild.

And drafting to field a truly competitive team can take time. The biggest concern is whether or not the coaches can successfully develop the new additions, which has also been a concern recently. But, perhaps the rebuild will also develop some new leaders or mentors in the locker room.

Jaguars fans must temper expectations, especially in the immediate future.

Last Word

Another disappointing season is coming to an end for the Jaguars. But the calendar changing soon does not mean that Jaguars fans should be filled with hope. Fans in Jacksonville need to ignore the false positive talk about the new season and be more realistic.

And while the two additional first- round picks (one each in 2020 and 2021) will certainly help and are something the fans can look forward to, the team most likely will not truly contend in the near future. Fans need to be patient.
