Free agent wide receiver, Demaryius Thomas, is going to sign a new deal with the New England Patriots. Contract details are pending at this time. Prior to last year’s trade deadline, the Houston Texans acquired Thomas from the Denver Broncos. Following the trade, the four-time Pro Bowler caught 23 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns in just seven games. Thomas’ previous contract was a five-year, $70 million deal with the Broncos signed prior to the 2015 season.

The Texans released Thomas on February 12th, which was a direct result of his torn Achilles from December. While the 31-year-old receiver plans to get healthy and return to the game, the Texans were obviously concerned about his second Achilles injury. Had Houston re-signed him, Thomas would receive a non-guaranteed $14 million salary in 2019.

During his nine seasons with the Broncos, Thomas played 125 games. He had 665 receptions for 9,055 yards. In the 2010 NFL Draft, Denver drafted the Georgia Tech receiver 22nd overall. During his three seasons as a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, Thomas had 120 receptions for 2,339 yards and 15 touchdowns. Thomas was the first wide receiver selected in the 2010 draft, followed two spots later by the only other first-round wide receiver drafted that year, Dez Bryant.

From 2012-16, Thomas never finished a season with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards. It included the 2014 season which was the most prolific of his career from a yardage standpoint. His 1,619 yards that year was second to only Antonio Brown. In four of those five seasons, Thomas garnered a Pro Bowl invitation.

As of February 28th, Colorado police took Thomas into custody for vehicular assault and driving without insurance. The charges result from an incident on February 16th and have recently taken the spotlight away from his free agency.
