Tyreek Hill is still a free agent, and the eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time First-Team All-Pro is perhaps the most intriguing player remaining on the open market. After character concerns caused him to fall to the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Hill spent the past decade establishing himself as one of the most dangerous and electric receivers in NFL history. Originally dominating with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Oklahoma State product earned a spot on the Hall of Fame team and played a pivotal role in helping Kansas City win its first Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in 2022, and he proved that he could still dominate away from Arrowhead. Paired with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Hill had his most dominant seasons in Miami and finished the 2023 season with 119 receptions for a league-best 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. However, his production dipped in 2024 and a gruesome knee injury limited him to just four games in 2025. The Dolphins cut him after the season, and he has yet to find a new team. However, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes the Los Angeles Chargers or Kansas City Chiefs could sign him.
Chiefs, Chargers Named Top Fits For Tyreek Hill
Hill’s history with Kansas City is the biggest reason for the potential reunion, but the Chiefs could also use another wide receiver. Despite winning two Super Bowls without Tyreek Hill, Kansas City has yet to find a proper replacement for his role in the offense. 2023 second-round pick Rashee Rice has stepped up as the focal point of the passing attack, but the fourth-year veteran does most of his damage in the short and intermediate part of the field. First-round pick Xavier Worthy was supposed to be this team’s next great deep threat, but he has yet to live up to his draft potential. Former Patriot Tyquan Thornton has made a few big plays for the team, but he’s not reliable enough to be a consistent threat in the passing attack.
Adding to the uncertainty is Travis Kelce’s age. While he is still one of the better tight ends in the league, he’s much closer to the end of his career than the beginning and is no longer the unstoppable force he was early in his career. Tyreek Hill might not be a game-changing threat at this stage in his career, but it can’t hurt to add more weapons to this passing attack. Add in the fact that Mahomes is returning from a torn ACL of his own and probably won’t have his patented mobility early in the season, and the Chiefs should at least kick the tires on Hill to see if he has anything left in his tank.
Fit With the Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of first-hand experience with Tyreek Hill, so they should know what the speedster can bring to the table. Jim Harbaugh’s squad doesn’t have a bad set of wide receivers by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s certainly room for improvement. Former second-round pick Ladd McConkey did not take the Year 2 leap last year, and while former first-round pick Quentin Johnston has overcome the rough start to his career, he’s still not anything special.
Tyreek Hill may not be a special player at this stage in his career, and it’s impossible to say if he’ll ever come close to recapturing his pre-injury form. However, there’s no harm in bringing him in, kicking the tires, and seeing how much gas is left in his tank. If signed to a one-year, incentive-laden contract, Hill would carry little to no downside and would offer plenty of upside for a team competing in arguably the league’s toughest division.
