While everyone is planning to light fireworks tonight, let’s take a look at the latest NFL trade rumors surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers. USA Today’s Anthony Rizzuti put together four potential destinations for Panthers WR Xavier Legette and believes the Chiefs could be one of the possible fits. Legette, a former first-round pick, has struggled the past two seasons as a Panther. After the team drafted promising speedy Tennessee prospect Chris Brazzell, they could be open to trading the former 2024 draft bust before the 2026 season.
It’s easy to see why Kansas City is a fit for the Panthers WR. Following the off-field issues and injury history in Rashee Rice, the Chiefs need a huge boost to their receiving corps. On the other end, Xavier Worthy has yet to establish himself as a reliable full-time threat, but he is showing improvement in minicamp this offseason. After that, between Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals and Nikko Remigio, it’s really anyone’s throne for the taking.
Given that QB Patrick Mahomes is returning from a season-ending injury last year, the team must do what it can to provide him with solid slot-route threats to make his life easier as a pocket-passer. The Chiefs can’t waltz into the 2026 season thinking that an old Travis Kelce and inexperienced Worthy can save this pass offense single-handedly. Let’s break down a trade that could make sense for both sides.

NFL Trade Rumors: Panthers, Chiefs Connected in $12M Fiery ‘Firework’ Trade Rumor
LWOS Trade Price Revealed
Rizzuti didn’t reveal what it would take to get Legette, but here at Last Word On Sports, let’s explore a fair firework package that could work for both sides. The Panthers could offer the former first-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick in exchange for Rashee Rice and a fifth-round pick. If you think about it, Kansas City is already “wary” of giving Rice, who is entering the final year of his contract, a new extension. As the confidence is gone, it’d be easier for the Chiefs to move on without the receiver.
Will Rice improve his career with the Panthers? The hope is that he can get his life back on track, but it also allows Brazzell a solid opportunity to win the WR3 spot behind Jalen Coker and Tetairoa McMillan. Meanwhile, Rice can work his way back on a promising roster that can find itself in an NFC Championship Game in the next five years. Of course, this is where the fifth-round extra selection comes into play, and the Panthers could draft another receiver to supplement Brazzell, Coker and McMillan.
On the other side, you’d have Legette joining Mahomes and a championship dynasty roster. It’d be a high-stakes situation for the receiver, but one that can get him on the right track of his career. Between him, Worthy and Thornton, they all share the same size and unique abilities that can operate as slot receivers, too. If all fails with Legette, they have a fourth-round pick and can reunite with Tyreek Hill before the 2027 NFL Postseason.
Other Suitors for Legette
Baltimore Ravens
After missing the start of mandatory camp, Baltimore Ravens WR Rashod Bateman has been projected as a trade candidate this offseason. The Ravens selected Ja’Kobi Lane in this year’s draft, and could take over as the primary contributor of this pass-attack for QB Lamar Jackson. Bateman massively regressed last season, and if he doesn’t step up this upcoming campaign, it might be time to move on.
Between Lane and Devontez Walker, the Ravens could snag Legette on a low-stakes trade that could give him some rotational snaps and have a chance to win a starting spot behind Zay Flowers.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, with former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter gone, it’s time for the Los Angeles Chargers to heavily invest in its pass-attack for QB Justin Herbert. The team will never get past the wild-card round of the postseason if they’re reluctant to make a decent trade. They’re better off giving up on Quentin Johnston and resetting this entire receiving corps behind Ladd McConkey.
Of course, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Tre Harris and 2026 draft selection Brenen Thompson are safe. However, Legette joining McConkey and this offense could pay off massively for Herbert.
