While Geno Smith is taking time off before training camp next month, he’s been posted online with his shirt off, with the mother of his child alleging domestic violence in a video. The woman, with a viral Instagram story caption, said:
“Today is the day. Geno Smith beat my a** cause he hates taking care of his special needs kid and can’t be left alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty,” she said.
Smith, a former second-round pick, rejoined the New York Jets this offseason after the team traded for him. The veteran agreed to a contract restructure with two years remaining on his deal. However, with the rise of the new allegations, the veteran might have to put his career on pause before the 2026 season. As of this posting, it’s still developing, as the veteran was heard in the video stating, “she just called the police.”

What to Know
In the viral clip, it doesn’t show any physical abusive behavior as Smith is heard remaining calm and asking the woman to leave. Police have arrived at the home, but no arrests have been made. The Jets, authorities, or the veteran QB have not made a public statement.
What Could Happen
It depends on the details that may arise. However, many should expect the NFL to take a deep look and investigate itself. It isn’t to say that the Jets will release the veteran, but it’s hard to imagine that if the allegations are true, he’s still the starter on this roster. In April, the team selected Cade Klubnik in the fourth round of the draft, and has Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
Could the Jets start Zappe in Week 1? Of course. While the Jets were excited for the former Raiders bust to return and put the offense in the driver’s seat to revive his career, it doesn’t look to be a guarantee anymore.
