According to Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks have traded Jermaine Kearse to the New York Jets for defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson and draft picks. Although not the best wide receiver in the game, Kearse was still very productive in Seattle. In 2016, he had 41 receptions for 510 yards and a touchdown.
Now, the Jets believe that Kearse can help out…whoever plays quarterback. Now, this is something of a blockbuster of a trade, and it’s a move that does help both sides get better in different ways. Although it does look like Seattle won this trade handedly, the Jets front office will love those draft picks from the Pacific Northwest

A Veteran Presence
Jermaine Kearse came into the NFL as an undrafted wide receiver from the University of Washington. Described by scouts as thick and athletic, Kearse was seen as a fifth-round pick for most draft boards. However, he ended up slipping through the entire draft, and Seattle picked him up as a free agent.
Now, Kearse is more of a veteran leader, something that the Jets so desperately need in the receiver room. With Quincy Enunwa out for a while, the Jets need somebody to catch passes for them. Enunwa only in his second year, mind you.
Physical Athleticism
When looking at Kearse from an objective standpoint, the first thing one notices is his 6’1, 209 frame. That’s pretty big as far as receivers go, and height seems to be the name of the Browns receiver game. Well, at least it should be. The Jets, in the absence of any true number one receiver, have been severely lacking at the wide out position.
Especially now with Brandon Marshall gone, and Devin Smith injured (again), this is the worst that New York’s receiver room has looked in years. Again, Enunwa’s health hasn’t been much of a help at the position either. Kearse, however, is a great physical presence that should work some wonders for the Jets. Along with his years of seasoning, expect him to have at least a decent year in New York. Hopefully, as the Jets should expect, he can really help out the litany of quarterbacks they may use this year.
