Rams’ Big Defense Spending Spark Shocking Puka Nacua Rumors

After spending most of their salary cap on defense this offseason, the Puka Nacua trade rumors are running rampant, and they aren’t going anywhere unless he receives a new contract. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Nacua still hasn’t earned a new extension, and with the latest moves, PFF believes the Rams could be preparing to trade him. It feels odd reading that the Rams would move on from their primary offensive weapon, but at the right price, it’s not impossible. The team won’t trade him anytime soon, but in the next few seasons, once Matthew Stafford retires, they could revisit the rumors.

With that, the receiver is safe for now, but the team did explore trading Davante Adams before deciding against it. They wanted AJ Brown, who found himself joining Drake Maye and the New England Patriots. The Rams have a promising young weapon in Jordan Whittington, who could see a larger role, but many should expect the team to target at least a veteran to enhance their pass unit. This means that the team getting rid of Nacua before the 2026 season is nearly impossible.

Puka Nacua Trade Rumors: Rams Eyeing Shocking $40M Move

What Would it Take for a Trade?

As stated, the Rams aren’t moving their top receiver, but it’s fair to wonder what the asking price would be. At some point, the team would probably want to recoup some draft picks once Stafford retires and 2026 draft pick Ty Simpson takes over this offense. Let’s predict that the Rams would probably ask for four first-round picks and a fifth-rounder for the receiver, and yes, because Nacua is that good.

Not only is he one of the most elite pass-catchers, but he’s established himself as a ballhawker in tight man-to-man coverages against a defender. The Rams may have operated differently, trading for Garrett and also CB Trent McDuffie, but the team should have enough to extend him. However, in this league, you always have to say “never say never.” If the team trades their top pass-catcher in the future, here are a few dream teams for Nacua.

Possible Dream Landing Spots

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have struggled to find an elite weapon for QB Justin Herbert since the Mike Williams-Keenan Allen era. If this roster wants to move further in the postseason, this organization must swallow their pride and spend big in the trade market. They’re never going to be a legitimate AFC threat if they lean too much on the ground game between Omarion Hampton, Kimani Vidal and now free agent acquisition Keaton Mitchell.

The least they could do is sign a low-stakes veteran before the 2026 season, and there are a few options, including Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs. Despite drafting Brenen Thompson, the Chargers have to get some help alongside Ladd McConkey for the long term, and Nacua is the perfect solution.

Miami Dolphins

Meanwhile, the Dolphins are going on a full rebuild after hiring head coach Jeff Hafley. The team traded Jaylen Waddle and released Tyreek Hill, which means new QB Malik Willis won’t have enough weapons to thrive. Miami has two new rotating slot options in Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert, but someone like Nacua would bring this offense back to life. If these next seasons are a struggle for this offense, which is expected, they should go ahead and risk it all for the Rams’ WR.

Buffalo Bills

This is never happening, but with Sean McDermott gone, the Buffalo Bills finally want to win a ring. While it seemed like they’re going backwards, it just proves that this front office is never afraid of making moves they feel are right for the organization. Despite trading for DJ Moore, the Bills never acquired another veteran, at least in free agency. If Moore doesn’t live up to the hype and Josh Allen still hasn’t won a championship in the next four years, Nacua could be their calling.
