Cowboys Latest News Could Lead to Sudden Trade Request – 3 Suitors Emerge

It’s another soap opera for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, as the latest reports came out that the team won’t talk a long-term extension with George Pickens, which may lead to a trade.  The offseason program is next week, after the NFL Draft this weekend, but Pickens reportedly has to play on the franchise tag, which he’s yet to sign. Stephen Jones said they expect Pickens to play on the franchise tag this upcoming season, and that could turn into a holdout. The Cowboys have the power to trade a player who is on a tag, so it shouldn’t be surprising that Pickens signs and requests a trade from the team.

Pickens is coming off the best season of his career, recording 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Similar to what happened to CeeDee Lamb a couple of offseasons ago, Pickens shouldn’t be in attendance for workouts next week. Despite the talks being “super cordial” between the Cowboys front office and Pickens’ agent, David Mulugheta, things can take a quick turn during the offseason.

Cowboys Latest News Could Lead to Sudden George Pickens Trade Request – 3 Suitors Emerge

As of this posting, there hasn’t been any reaction from Pickens yet. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if he takes to social media, and if that happens, the Cowboys might have to take a receiver in the first round of this year’s draft. The last thing that Dallas wants is drama to distract from an offense that was electric last season. Dallas has an extra first-round pick and could use that to get a low-stakes established offensive weapon as backup.

This story is still developing, but the news from the Jones family is not a good sign. For now, here are three teams that are probably ringing the phone for Pickens.

Potential Landing Spots

Los Angeles Chargers

With a QB like Justin Herbert, the Los Angeles Chargers need a top superstar receiver. Ladd McConkey is the best option they have, and that’s concerning, considering he has minimal experience in the playoffs. Quentin Johnston has shown signs of improvement, but it’s not on the level of what will elevate this offense. Pickens would be their best bet at the AFC championship game and pair with McConkey to give Herbert their best offense yet.

This will only happen if the Chargers’ front office can drop their ego and give up some of their draft picks for Pickens.

Carolina Panthers

A shocking development could come from the Carolina Panthers, who have been aggressively improving their defense. After signing Jaelan Philips and Devin Lloyd in free agency, the Panthers could turn their attention to help Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker with one of the best playmakers in today’s game. This trade should give the QB Bryce Young a chance to succeed in this offense, but they will have to give up their first-round pick, Xavier Legette, and a future third-round pick to make it happen.

Baltimore Ravens

What might be shocking is if the Ravens are willing to give up Zay Flowers and their first-rounder for Pickens and the Cowboys’ extra first-round pick. This might be a solid move as the two teams are still figuring out a long-term extension for their top receivers. However, it’ll likely come down to Rashod Bateman, who will get dealt, and at least three draft picks to get Pickens. The thought of Flowers and Pickens to help Lamar Jackson should get this offense to the Super Bowl.
