Chiefs Urged To Avoid This One Prospect In 2026 NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently set to make their first top-10 pick since they selected Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft. While they clearly won’t find a player of his impact this time around, the team must take advantage of this opportunity. Everything that could go wrong for Kansas City last year, did go wrong, and the team probably won’t have another top-10 pick as long as Mahomes is healthy and head coach Andy Reid is on the sideline. With this in mind, the Chiefs must take advantage of this rare opportunity to land a high-impact player.

While the team could go with several different players, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine recommended the team stay away from one specific prospect. In a recent article, the NFL analyst wrote that Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson simply isn’t worth the risk.

“tyson is the ninth-ranked prospect on [Bleacher Report’s] big board and our top receiver by a narrow margin over Carnell Tate. But the injury risk here must be acknowledged,” Ballentine writes. “Tyson has a concerning history of injury that needs to be considered. He tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL as a freshman at Colorado and only played in nine games last season as he dealt with a hamstring issue down the stretch of his final collegiate campaign.”

Chiefs Urged To Avoid WR Jordyn Tyson In 2026 NFL Draft

Let’s start with the obvious: the Kansas City Chiefs could use another wide receiver in the draft. While Rashee Rice is one of the game’s better possession receivers, the rest of the depth chart could use some work. Xavier Worthy has yet to live up to his first-round draft capital, Tyquan Thornton is a depth option, and future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce is starting to slow down. While Kelce is still an above-average receiving tight end, he has clearly lost a step and is playing on a year-to-year basis at this point in his career. The Chiefs must find someone else to step up and become a key part of the passing attack.

Jordyn Tyson is one of the most fascinating players in the NFL Draft, and nobody knows exactly when he’ll go off the board. If this were Madden and you could turn off injuries, he’d probably be a top-five pick. However, you cannot ignore his extensive absences throughout his collegiate tenure, and the NFL season is longer and filled with faster, stronger players who hit a lot harder. While Tyson’s ceiling is through the roof, you can’t blame Ballentine for saying Tyson isn’t worth the risk. Kansas City needs someone who can help right away, and Tyson carries too many question marks.

It’s worth noting that Ballentine’s article is only in reference to the ninth-overall pick. The Chiefs also own the 29th-overall pick thanks to the Trent McDuffie trade. It’s hard to imagine any world where Tyson falls that far, but Kansas City could package that pick and move up for Tyson if he falls into the 15th-19th overall range.
