Just about everyone in the NFL world expects the Philadelphia Eagles to trade wide receiver A.J. Brown at some point in the offseason. After establishing himself as one of the game’s top receivers with the Tennessee Titans, the Ole Miss product joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 and immediately became the focal point of the passing attack. During his four seasons with the club, Brown recorded 339 receptions for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns while helping the team win a Super Bowl and reach another one.
The original A.J. Brown trade worked wonders for the Eagles, but all good things must come to an end. Brown is clearly unhappy with the organization, and his performance started to suffer last year. While he still had a solid season, he’s not the player he once was and wasn’t shy about expressing his frustration. While most reports across the league indicate the New England Patriots will try to acquire him, Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman isn’t ready to let him go.
Roseman responded to comments about a potential A.J. Brown trade in a recent media session. In it, the General Manager said in no uncertain terms that “A.J. Brown is an Eagle.”
Howie Roseman Addresses A.J. Brown Trade Rumors
Despite Roseman’s comments, it’s still safe to assume the Eagles will trade A.J. Brown at some point in the coming months. After all, the relationship between player and team is remarkably strained, and Brown is entering his age-29 season, so this may be the last time to trade him and still get a high return.
Chances are, the Eagles will wait until after June 1st to trade the star wide receiver. Brown currently carries a $23.4 million cap hit, but that number jumps to $43.4 milion if they trade him before June 1st. However, if they wait until after June 1st, Philadelphia can spread its dead money over two seasons. This will reduce his cap hit to just $16.4 million and will actually clear some cap space for the Eagles.
While anyone could trade for A.J. Brown, the New England Patriots are easily the favorites to secure his services. New England made the Super Bowl with head coach Mike Vrabel and second-year quarterback Drake Maye leading the charge, but they’ll need to bolster their roster to make a return trip in 2026. While the team spent big on Romeo Doubs, they have yet to find a proper replacement for Stefon Diggs. Brown is better than Diggs at this stage in their respective career, and Vrabel should know how to get the best out of the wideout thanks to their shared time in Tennessee.
