Devin Lloyd Jacksonville Jaguars LB joins Carolina Panthers in free agency

Jaguars Top Free Agent Speaks on Future With Team

Former first-round pick Devin Lloyd spent the first four years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is about to hit the open market on the heels of a career season. While he has always been a solid player, the Utah product took his game to an elite level in 2025. Starting and appearing in 15 games, the four-year veteran finished the season with five interceptions, 81 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, 10 quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, and an 88.4 PFF grade, the 3rd-best mark in the league out of 88 eligible players.

Linebacker isn’t the most important position in today’s pass-heavy NFL, but it’s safe to assume the 27-year-old will earn a massive payday in the coming months. If Devin Lloyd has his way, that check will come from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to NFL.com’s Kevin Petra, Lloyd would prefer to stay with Jacksonville. This makes sense, as the Jaguars are the only team he knows, the organization is on the rise, and the weather is nice. Unfortunately, the feeling might not be mutual.

Devin Lloyd Wants to Re-Sign With Jaguars, Jacksonville Might Not Be Interested

While Devin Lloyd is a good player, the Jaguars may not re-sign their homegrown talent. For one, they declined his fifth-year option, which suggests they don’t view him as a long-term part of the organization. Additionally, Lloyd is the best free agent linebacker out there and will likely receive a massive contract. Jacksonville is currently $11.4 million over the projected salary cap, so they’d have a difficult time trying to pay Lloyd market value while simultaneously building a competitive roster.

Only time will tell where Devin Lloyd ends up, but there’s a good chance he leaves the Jaguars for a massive payday. Looking around the league, teams like the Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, and Arizona Cardinals have plenty of cap space and a desperate need for a player like Lloyd, who can hold up in coverage and stop the run.
