Sean McVay Speaks on Davante Adams’ Uncertain Future With Rams

The Los Angeles Rams came one or two drives away from reaching the Super Bowl, and veteran wide receiver Davante Adams had a lot to do with the team’s success. Signed to a two-year, $44 million deal in the offseason, the three-time All-Pro proved he could still be a great receiver despite his age. Starting and appearing in 14 games, the 33-year-old wideout finished his season with 60 receptions for 789 yards and a league-best 14 touchdowns. Playing alongside Puka Nacua, the two formed arguably the NFL’s most dangerous receiver duo for presumptive MVP Matthew Stafford.

Now set to carry a $28 million cap hit in 2026, some wondered if the Rams would part ways with their talented but expensive wide receiver. However, head coach Sean McVay made it clear that Adams is part of the long-term plans and will return to the team next year.

Sean McVay: “No Reason to Believe” Rams Will Release Davante Adams

Davante Adams may not be the most valuable player in the league on a dollar-for-dollar basis, but it’s easy to see why the Rams want to bring him back for at least one more season. This team is in the midst of its Super Bowl window, and having Adams on the field dramatically increases its chances of winning it all.

This all assumes that quarterback Matthew Stafford will return for another season. The former first-overall pick openly flirted with retirement over the past few years, but it appears as though he plans on playing again in 2026. Now firmly entrenched as one of the game’s top quarterbacks, Stafford’s presence, combined with McVay’s brilliant mind and a loaded roster, gives this team a good shot of hoisting the Lombardi next year.

Adding to this is the fact that the Rams have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Historically, Los Angeles has preferred to invest in veterans over early-round picks, so perhaps the Rams trade this pick for a big-name veteran at some point in the offseason. While the temptation to find Stafford’s eventual replacement will certainly be there, it’s a weak quarterback class, and the Rams would probably prefer investing in players who can help the team win games immediately.
