Miami Dolphins Quarterback Ryan Tannehill Injures Knee in Practice

A pre-season that has been plagued with injuries has claimed another victim. During Thursday's practice, Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill injured his knee.

The 2017 season has been plagued with big injuries so far, and the season hasn’t even started. The Los Angeles Chargers have lost their second round pick with rookie guard Forrest Lamp tearing his ACL. Just yesterday, Texans former first round pick Will Fuller broke his collarbone as well. Now, in a bit of a freak accident, Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured his knee during practice.

Dolphins fans are already upset with Head Coach Adam Gase’s decision to go full-contact during training camp. Gase wasn’t happy with the way the team performed last season and felt that a full-contact camp was what they needed to get it together. 2016’s breakout running back Jay Ajayi has already been a victim of the full-contact after suffering a concussion this past week. Ajayi will likely only miss a week, and maybe the first pre-season game, but a concussion this early is still not a good sign.

The Dolphins latest injury, however, has little to nothing to do with Gase’s approach to training camp. Earlier in today’s practice, Tannehill scrambled during one of the plays. He ran out of bounds, untouched, but his left knee buckled, causing him to collapse. The concern with the team, as well as the fans, is that it is the same knee which Tannehill suffered a sprained ACL and MCL last season. That is, however, still the worst case scenario for Tannehill’s injury.

Tannehill wasn’t required to have surgery on the sprain and seemed to be healed, in a knee brace, at the start of training camp. The initial thought is that Tannehill has hyperextended his knee and possibly has PCL damage. The team is awaiting MRI results before making any decisions on Tannehill at this time.
